Forest View Express is a growing local bluegrass band that has been pulling out their wooden instruments, pickin' & grinnin', & stompin' their feet to real American music for the past five years. Started by Tom Deuter as a banjo & guitar duo in 1991 under the name, The Rockin' Bluegrass Boys, the group has grown beyond anyone's expectations. Spurred by the joy of playing & the original duo's enthusiasm, they worked over many standard bluegrass & rock n' roll tunes. The duo spent three years building their song repertoire using modest amplification systems. Then they added a bassist in the Fall of 1994, creating a fuller sound & playing more venues. 1995 saw the band through many changes & much growth both individually & collectively. They added mandolinist, Jeff De Vries in the spring, changed bass players in the summer, adding Phil Graniczny to the lineup. The group then changed its name to Forest View Express (after the street where Tom lives) and made an appearance on WFMT 98.7's "Midnight Special" radio program. Finally, later that year, the band welcomed a new guitarist to replace Tom's original partner.
This lineup saw the band through most of its changes and most of its progress. Everyone got more involved with vocals & they incorporated a greater variety of songs. Previously & still today, however, many of FVE's tunes are fast & furious much to Toms liking. They also vastly improved their concert sound! Today the group resembles nothing of its first incarnation.
