Pilot Radio, a modern rock/pop quartet from Katy Texas has been described by Antonia Santangelo of CMJ as having a flair for ?producing simple, gentle songs brimming with catchy hooks and intimate lyrics?. With a sound reminiscent of Counting Crows or perhaps R.E.M., their appeal is diverse and wide spread. Currently on an indie label, Pilot Radio has gained some attention from the Major?s, such as MCA and Columbia to name a few. Not surprising, considering they are regularly playing in a dozen states, with well over 1000 fans on their mailing list and radio play on approximately 90 stations across the U.S. Pilot Radio will begin touring in January 2003 in support of their September release of ?Antiques?, their second offering on Solar Flare Records. Promotional activities for Antiques included advertising in national magazines and both college and commercial radio campaigns. After touring through May of 2003, Pilot Radio will be back in the studio to record their already written third cd. Pilot Radio?s lineup includes Ricky Young, guitar and vocals, Drew Walters, bass, Keith Shepard on guitar and Austen Hooks on drums. The original band has been intact since 1997, with the addition of Keith Shepard in 1999. With only a few live performances under their belt in 2001, 2002 has proved to be something of a breakout year for Pilot Radio, having performed approximately 50 concerts between May and December. A large number of those performances were ?by request? college circuit concerts and festivals. Recognized for their talent, Fender USA has named Pilot Radio a Fender Co-operative artist, and the band looks forward to a mutually beneficial relationship with Fender and other sponsors/endorsements in the future. The new year will bring extensive touring, at least one new record, and more public performances. According to Wade Coggeshall of the Journal Review ?the mind cannot fathom where this band has yet to venture and what they have yet to create. ?Antiques? deserves to be heard on a massive scale??.it is our plan to make that happen.

Your musical influences
Tom Petty is a major influence. Each band member has different influences, but I would say the Beatles were another influence.
