On unknown soil On unknown soil
"On unknown soil" are the first song we recorded (2002), and our music might have changed a little direction since then. But this tune will give you a good description of what we do!
We play a fine mixture of various metal-styles with female vocals. My best way to describe what we do is: We are not black metal and not Nightwish! Maybe (just maybe) something in between! Well, just listen and find out yourself!:D

Some years ago, Atle, Lars Thomas & Odd Arve (and some others) played together in a band called ”Cartoon Reality” which mostly played crappy punksongs and some covers of different bands that we liked at the time.
I think all three of us started to get more or less sick of both playing and listening to this kind of music, and we were all interested in different sorts of metal.
We started to think new, and we also made new material at the time. This was something else. Harder, melodic in another direction and kind of groovy..hehe.
This, I think, was the beginning of Explicit Karma.
In this period we stopped calling us Cartoon Reality, we just “jammed out” new shit, and played material that we all liked.
Atle and I went to a gig with a local band called Ram-Zet in Hamar some time after this. We were kind of early, and so were Anders! We didn’t know him then, but he and Atle went to the same school. We talked a lot with him outside as we waited for the doors to open, and made great contact! He told us that he played the guitar, and since we needed a bass-player we asked him to try out on an audition.
He told us he would love to, and the rest is history! (I can tell you it went very well!)
Now, the only thing we missed was a good vocalist. In the first place we thought of a vocalist who was capable of “growling”/screaming and maybe did clean vocals too.
We tried out the vocalist from a band called “Vesen”, but since he lived pretty far from us, we thought it wouldn’t work out.
Anders knew a girl in school (and at work) which he knew were a vocalist, but none of us had heard her. He asked her if she would like to try, and since she were looking for a band at the time, she (luckily) said yes.
All of us were pretty nervous, but after the first tune, we were all spellbound by her voice. And we all agreed that Julie would be our new vocalist! (Even before we discussed it!)
Now, Explicit Karma was born!Have you performed in front of an audience?We play live as much as possible! We love it, but we are pretty lazy ourselves, so now we have "hired" a manager! Then we'll properbly get out and play more!
Your musical influences
We all've got different taste in music, and I think that is what makes our music so unique! Because it's a melting-pot of everybodys' taste!
(Basicly our roots are metal, but we listen to everything between prog-rock to classical music!)What equipment do you use?
We have 2 guitars, bass, drums & vocals. (Pretty regular!:)Anything else?
We love beer! Yeah!!=)
