we are four very simple guys who like to get drunk and play music. it's as simple as that.
the band name (nolaughing) is kinda self-explanitory - most people don't understand the truly unique sense of humour we have so they don't laugh with us... get it? sick.
we have regular practices at our houses, or wherever possible. these usually consist of us drinking beer and recording whatever we may come up with on that night. we rarely plan what happens at practices...Band/artist history
(nolaughing) are: gavin drake (vocals), matt hartley (guitar), chris shaw (bass) and chris stanley (drums). the name (nolaughing) is kind of self-explanitory. the sense of humour this band possess is absolutley, truly unique. the things they find funny you would cry about. a lot of people don't understand this and so, do not laugh along with their jokes. get it? there is actually quite a lot of history behind this thing they call (nolaughing). to understand it, all you need is a simple mind... gavin (vocals) and matt (guitar) met at college in september 2003. it was stupidly obvious a similar outlook on life existed between the pair. gavin's first words to matt were, "the god-damn vending machine gave me soft-ass starburst instead of m&m's!". this seemed to trigger the new wave of student humour that has now been nurtured into a musical giant. the months that followed were a blurry, drunken chaos fuelled by the special kids at college and those very few inspirational artists. although their musical tastes were somewhat 'different' (matt is into some of the most extreme metal on the planet, whereas gavin is into abrasive punk and reggae), the idea of playing music together was soon thrown around. they realised their diverse music tastes would have an amazing connection and form something truly original. the end result? (nolaughing) - imagine a perfect combination of raging speedhorn, incubus, silverchair, misfits, sepultura and god forbid influence. that's pretty much what we sound like, you could say... after a few failed attempts with a full band, gavin and matt started to get bored and decided to start a revolution. a 2-man band driven by alcohol and retardedness. several names were suggested including psyclone and gibbs inc. before finally settling on (nolaughing). matticus recalls, "i was sending one of our very first recordings to somebody and they asked what it was. my reply was something along the lines of, 'it's my first demo... so no laughing!' and that's where the name comes from. i dunno where the brackets come from. they just make it look cool". during their first practice on the 17th of september 2004, they managed to record a short track about carling (best beer ever) and an incredibly rough misfits cover. after the first two songs were laid down, they realised the new wave of kick-assness had begun... after several months of writing songs and practicing to high-hell, they started to realise that this silly little project had some kind of potential to kick-ass beyond their bedrooms. they decided to add members and turn this thing into a full band. in mid-january 2005, (nolaughing) added chris shaw (bass) and chris stanley (drums - also the kick-ass drummer of fear of music) to its ranks. what does the future hold for (nolaughing)? well, they shall write more songs, play more gigs and, hopefully, record some kind of record... that's when the anarchy will really begin...Have you performed in front of an audience?several gigs coming up, glad to play bedrooms and parties
