Band/artist history
Born in NYC to a Puerto-Rican/ Native Indian single mother. We then moved to Massachusetts, where we settled in Lawrence, which is a town about 20 minutes from Boston. At a young age I was exposed to the music that has guided me to be the artist that I am today. I began receiving music from churches, schools, and homes where R&B, soul and Latin ballads influenced me and gave me the tools that I am using today. The styles that I use, range anywhere from Latin pop, Latin ballads, R&B, R&B Hip Hop, Salsa, and Bachata. I was first interested in playing instruments so I began taking piano lessons but soon realized that wasn't for me. I decided to try playing the drums, which I enjoyed and continued playing for the high school band, but still didn’t feel the satisfaction that I was looking for. I tried singing at a talent show that was hosted by a top Boston radio station, JAMIN 94.5. JAMIN was hosting the " FIRST NIGHT " talent show, which entailed an audition of about 500 + contestants and I was picked to do the show. Micheal Bivens from New Edition judged me and I placed 2nd, which was no small accomplishment for my first show in front of 500+ people in the Strand Theater in Boston After this show I was in music overdrive, doing Spanish festivals, small shows for the city, was flown to Miami to open up for an upcoming artist being put out by a small record label. Then in the year 2000, Victor Reyes of J.V.N. records, in assoc. with Sony Discos Latino approached me to sign a small recording contract. I recorded several songs and worked with some really good musicians, producers and some big artist as well, like: Mochy Alexander and Alex Bueno known for there Bachata style music. I had the honor of working with Martires a heavy weight producer/musician in Dominican Republic. With J.V.N. Records I released a song on a Compilation CD that was sold everywhere in 2001, but after that CD dropped I started to realize that my music was pulling away from what I really wanted to do. Unfortunately I could no longer work with J.V.N. so we parted ways and after some time off I got back into the swing of things with shows in NYC, Boston, Miami, and Bahamas at a resort/hotel. I have also sung for the mayor of Lawrence in a special event that he was hosting and worked for United Way of Massachusetts opening up with the National Anthem, and I will continue to sing, write, and co-produce songs. Well thank you for taking the time to get to know me better, and God bless you in all you do! Peace, Love, and Happiness Omar Abreu !
