Alone in his dorm room in the late 1990’s, Adam Powell constructed and refined a new version of his high school solo project, Girl Next Door. His efforts and creativity resulted in Thosquanta. For the next few years, Powell went on to write, perform, mix, and record two albums as this new band, a dark industrial sound with a slight synthpop edge. After a brief sojourn into pure synthpop, Adam once again redefined Thosquanta reformed as a dark amalgam of goth, industrial, rock, and country. While at a Faint concert, Adam met Jen Plum, a singer and songwriter he quickly recruited for the new band. He later added ex-Dysrupt bass player Dave Erickson and guitar player/song writer Tom Zempel to give the new project a full, lush, live feel.Have you performed in front of an audience?yup!
we play mostly local bars in the minneapolis/st paul area.
Your musical influences
well, we've gone through a few albums at this point. we tend to change our sound along with our influence album to album. phoenix was largely influenced by the cure's simple basslines, lovelife by a wide variety of sounds from MIA to kmfdm to portishead, and the new stuff we are working on is a bit more of the simple dance/guitar stuff thats coming out these days. of course, our take on it relies a bit more on 80's roland sounds and nic and dave's metal take on...well...just about everything. What equipment do you use?
drums and synths are done on reason, with heavy use of hardware synthesizers like the nord modular, roland jx3p, alpha juno-1.
adam's guitar rig uses a ibanez iceman run thru a few boss metals (notably the metal zone), a tubeworks amp head and an avatar 4x12 cabinet.
nic's guitar rig uses a schecter 7-string guitar run thru a peavy transtube amp setup.
dave uses a tobias growler bass rig hooked up in his own special way...
