Featuing former members of Klank 54 aims to create a new sound blending elements that are melded together to become cutting edge.Their sound has many layers of influence from the beats of underground hip-hop to the introspection of indie rock, from the heaviness of Sabbath to the gentleness of John Coltrane.
The band originated as a side project of Klank, comprised of Pat Servedio (guitar and programming) , John Zaletel (drums and programming)and Darren"Klank"Diolosa. Klank signed with Tooth and Nail to record “Still Suffering.” Thirty thousand copies were sold and the remix EP sold ten thousand copies. Klank also put out a independent release, “Numb” which sold five thousand copies. The video, “Blind” from “Numb” was featured on Much Music. The band charted on CMJ for seventeen weeks and on FNBQ. Klank headlined their own US tour and played with such bands as P.O.D., M.X.P.X., and Living Sacrifice. Their music was also featured on “The Dennis Rodman Show” on MTV. This exposure was exciting. Yet, because of creative differences, Pat and John moved on and sought to create something new.
Fiftyfour is completed by lead singer Kerry Merkle, a regular on the New York underground music scene. He fronted the hard rock band Redshift, who were scouted by several labels after producing an independent release. Kerry has brought his vocal influence rooted in indie rock. Lyrically driven he brings message to 54’s music. Together, Pat, John, and Kerry have created a unique sound that blends aggressive indie rock with a modern hip-hop beat.
Hip-Hop producer Taiwain Green offered to enhance 54’s sound after hearing one of their songs during a studio session in 54’s studio. Mr.Fingaz has worked successfully with DMX and Jah Rule on such hit as “Angel” and “Holla Holla” and most recently with such artist as Busta Rymes and Fabulous. Green’s expertise has produced several platinum selling singles. His influence and guidance willonly further 54’s music by adding a urban beat.
While their sound is indefinable, the music could be compared to such bands as Filter, Nine Inch Nails, or Incubus. The future trend will be the blending of hip-hop beats with the hard edge of rock. 54 has already created this sound and can enhance it by working with Mr.Fingaz. Their live shows will activate all senses and bring the future of music to the fore. 54 do not sound like new rock music; 54 are the sound of new rock music.
Our live shows display the frenetic energy that is alive within our music.
