Band/artist history
It all started in the year of 1994 when Miguel (guitar) and Marco (vocals) gave form to a project named ORATORY. Their youth and some musical immaturity took them to experiment many varied sounds releasing two demo-tapes ("Enchantation" and "Sarcastic Soul" and participating in the compilation CD "High Radiation II". The live experience, musical/technical evolution and line-up changes lead the band to start developing their own sound, defined afterwards as "neo-classic melodic power metal".
In 1999 the band played at the Steel Warrior's Festival (with Tarantula, Ancient Rites, etc) and their show was seen by the Portuguese label Recital's A&R manager. A contract was offered and in October'99 they entered the Rec'n'Roll studio to record the pre-production of the debut album. After listening those 3 songs and 1 intro the label decided to release it as an EP called "Last Prophecy". Meanwhile the band opened for the Finnish STRATOVARIUS in Vila das Aves Stadium. The response to "Last Prophecy" was amazing with great reviews from all over the world.
Between March and May 2000 the band was again in the Rec'n'Roll studios with Luis Barros to produce the album "Illusion Dimensions". Meanwhile the label started the negotiations with LMP Limb Music that after listening the CD offered a license deal.
In September 2000 the album was released worldwide. In Portugal the readers of Portuguese Loud! and Riff magazines acclaimed the band as "newcomers" of the year. The band played several shows in their home country with bands as Tarantula and METALIUM.
In February 2001 the male singer Marco Alves decided to leave the band due to difficulties in conciliating his personal life with the band. The band moved on and Ana Lara became the main singer. In late March the band recorded a cover version of Tarantula's "Lusitania" to be included in this band's Tribute. Until the end of the year the band played several shows in Portugal and Spain, including two acclaimed performances with EDGUY.
On January 2002 the quintet goes to the Black Solaris studios in Frankfurt, Germany where they have recorded "Beyond Earth". The producer was Uwe Lulis, guitar player of Rebellion, Iron Savior and former Grave Digger and producer of Wizard, Warhead and Grave Digger among others.
With world edition on the 20th May by Recital and in December by Limb Music, "Beyond Earth" is the new bet of ORATORY.
The album "Beyond Earth" was applauded at national level with the first edition sold out in less than three weeks. In Spain it has been for two months on the top sales of Mastermax, the main distributing company in this country.
The video clip "Song of Lust" has been played in the Sol Musica, SIC Radical and NTV television channels. The band was also interviewed and played live in the show "Curto Circuito" (SIC Radical) and on NTV. "Beyond Earth" was considered album of the year by the readers of LOUD, ORATORY having been considered the third best portuguese band of 2002. Besides they have been nominated for the Raio X awards in the categories of best metal band and best album.
The tour "Beyond Tour 2003/2003" had nineteen concerts in Portugal, Spain and Germany. The presence of the band at the Wacken Open Air (Germany) and Torres Rock (Spain) festivals allowed the consolidation of the internationalization of the band.
ORATORY has been considered the 3rd best portuguese band in 2003 by the readers of LOUD.
Presently the band is on pre-production of its third album. Almost two years after the release of "Beyond Earth" ORATORY are still being invited to several festivals and performances. As the drummer João Rodrigues is now living out of Portugal, and due to the preparation of new songs the band decided to stop its appearances live for a while.
For personal reasons João Rodrigues left the band, and has been replaced by Pedro Cabral who returns as drummer of ORATORY where he has been before.
Due to the number of invitations the band has decided to return to the road with the "Beyond The Tour 2004".Your musical influences
