Band/artist history
Stevo’s BluGruVuDU is my solo project. Its my organic gumbo of guitar-drenched, angst-ridden, alternative rock/blues. I hear the music as a hybrid of the blues/jazz players who inspired me improvisationally and the heavier bands and grooves that thumped my sternum and made me stomp my feet. Lyrically I attempt to narrate the twisted cognitive traps and the distorted mental defects which seem to plaque my main frame and some of the more colorful people I've known. My musical history conjoins the study of classical guitar at Indiana University for 2 years, my bachelor degree studies at Berklee College of Music; too many early morning, dive-bar, annebriated, extenda-jams; unemployed, couch-potatoed, stoned-out, catatonic riff-mantras; millions of monotonous metronomic clicks; neighborly annoying playalongs with favorites and ear bleeding, garage band rehearsals and gigs on the Sunset Strip, Boston's Landsdowne Street and across the Midwest. I feel I've been heavily influenced by Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Miles Davis, Soundgarden, John Coltrane, Black Sabbath, Thelonious Monk, Led Zeppelin, Charlie Parker, James Brown, Parliament Funkadelic, Tower of Power, Fishbone, Joe Pass, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Buddy Guy, Rage Against the Machine and too many others to mention. I love listening to any music I've never heard previously and anything repeatedly which has that universally tangible yet indescribably soulful ingredient. I’d like to think that I continually strive to hear something I haven’t experienced previously or hear something new in an old favorite. I wish I could have finished Rantings & Ravings much sooner but I funded all the recording and studio time on a limited budget. I did however do each of the songs the way I heard it. If I wanted 3 guitar solos on a song, they're all there. If I didn't want a bridge, there would be no "confounded bridge". If I wanted to scream...(allright, I'm being redundant) Since the release of Rantings & Ravings I’ve tried unsuccessfully to put a band together to support the CD. My inability, I believe, is in part due to the lack of commitment and reliability I’ve found with local musicians. I’ll hop up on my soapbox for a minute to say that, through my experience, I can’t get 3-4 musicians to show up on time let alone in the same relative state of mind. Because these strange musical creatures are such flakes, I’ll begin recording my second CD this summer hopefully to be released by Christmas of 2000. (I’ve heard that before) I'm fairly confident that without this cathartic outlet I would most likely be institutionalized and/or highly medicated and I hope this CD will allow the listener to get a little piece of something-something of insidious etiologic manifestation off their chest, shoulder, back, wherever, as it did for me.
