Tarkus is my production name. I produce progressive, independent hiphop. I play jazz on trumpet and piano for samples and use various synths and basses also. I live in Rochester, NY and also lived in New York for awhile as well so I head back there to keep up music connections and whatnot. I'd like to keep making moves and find a few decent MCs to spit on tracks that are rhyme-friendly.Band/artist history
I grew up playing classical and jazz on piano and then trumpet. I'm trained in jazz on trumpet and I'm constantly learning with that. I started getting into the basics of Hiphop production using 4 tracks and live recording when I was 14 and 15 but only learned how to go about sequencing tracks on a professional level about 2 years ago. I've progressed quickly though with a musical backround and hope to keep learning with my love for synths and any other gear I can get my hands on and record.Have you performed in front of an audience?I have not played my beats live, however I have played with various jazz and fusion groups. I always like that and incorporate that as much as possible into my beats.
Your musical influences
Def Jux, MF Doom, Madlib, Demigodz, Megalon, J-Live, and Nonphixion in terms of Hiphop. I listen to a lot of classical era, romantic, and modern 20th century compositions also. In terms of jazz I could go on for ages but Miles, Coltrane, Ornette Coleman, Eric Dolphy, Jack DeJohnette, Dave Douglas, Bill Evans, Herbie Hancock, and last but not muthafuckin least Thelonious.What equipment do you use?
Reason 2.5, Shure microphones, Cubase and Cool Edit Pro, Spark XL, various Korg synths, MIDI keys, and any instruments available to sample using my mikes and contacts.
