Radial Angel is Pop Music from a rock perspective. They are known for writing great songs and performing them live. Their emotional live show connects with fans al over the country.Band/artist history
Radial Angel is a straightforward rock band based in Oklahoma City, OK. Thanks in part to their catchy hooks and live show; the band has gained a tremendous amount of independent success. “They are a must-see if you love the live music experience!” says Shawn McSpadden, Warner Bros. Christian’s Sr. VP of A&R.
In April 2004 the band released the EP Summer Fade. This disc is a return to the band’s independent roots. Recorded and produced by Grammy nominated Eric Delegard, the band feels this album is the “best stuff to date.” The year 2004 has brought a full touring schedule including an arena tour, which placed Radial Angel in front of approximately 90,000 people. Summer to early fall the band will be promoting their new release with the Summer Fade tour crossing the country.
Since formation in 1999 the band has released 4 independent releases, selling over 30,000 units. The band’s first release, titled Radial Angel was a huge success for the young, independent band. The self-titled album produced two singles, which were successful. “Down” the first single, charted high on stations across the country. It reached #14 on Progressive Airplay Journal’s Rock Top 50 of 2001 and #7 on Radio U’s (Columbus, OH) “100 Most Wanted Songs of 2000.” A video was also produced for “Down” and received rotational airplay on TVU and other shows across the U.S. The self-titled album was named one of the Top 20 Impacting New Artist of 2001 in the Progressive Airplay Journal (October 2, 2000). Radial Angel as a part-time independent band reached this success. In 2003 Shawn McSpadden said of the band “Radial Angel is a band that has their act together.”
Shortly after the release of the self-titled album the band released The Monday Sessions. The album recorded mostly for fun, was produced by Eddie Jones, current bassist for the band. The Monday Sessions was a limited release that sold 1,000 copies.
In 2002 the band spent a better part of the year recording One More Last Time with Kevin Lively (Rage Against the Machine, Stone Temple Pilots) and Chris Freels (Charlie Hall, Jamie Smith) at West 2nd Recording in Oklahoma City. The album was released in September 2002 and quickly sold copies. In November of the same year, Warner Bros. Christian music division solicited the band with a record deal. Warner Bros. purchased One More Last Time, remixed, repackaged and released the album in March of 2003. The first single released by Warner Bros. was “She.” The song was successful on Christian radio and charted across the county. Also released by the label was “Your Name.” During the same time a production company approached the band and a video was produced for “Your Name.” The “Your Name” video reached #4 on TVU’s most requested video show. During 2003 the band toured full-time playing over 100 dates. The spring included a tour with the Elms and Holland. In the summer Radial Angel headlined the “Can’t Stop the Rock Tour.”
In November of 2003 the band was notified that due to transitions at the label, Warner Bros. Christian would no longer be promoting rock bands. Contracts were not renewed for all the existing “rock” bands. Radial Angel was preparing to record a new release so they hit the studio in February 2004 to take their next step. Which leads them to mid-2004.
The band is excited about where they are. Their experience with Warner Bros. was a learning one. It allowed them exposure to the music business and ultimately to know that they are responsible for their success. Hard work has allowed them to come this far in the game and that is what will help them rise above.
Currently they are shopping Summer Fade, looking for a right fit. 2004 will be a huge touring year for the band, looking to gain new audience members and gain national attention in a wider arena.Have you performed in front of an audience? We play live a lot. Anywhere people ask us to. We love playing live it is a great thing to get to travel and meet cool people. There are to many special moments to list.
Your musical influences
We get compared to Our Lady Peace, Goo Goo Dolls, Tonic, Vertical Horizon, Bush, maroon 5.
We like bands like Switchfoot, foo fighters, copeland, U2, as well as bands like Chevelle. We like anyone who writes great songs. We love bands that are doing something that will last outside of the genre they are in.What equipment do you use?
guitars and drums.Anything else?
