Band/artist history
UponDeafEars are a 3-piece rock band from Lichfield, nothing more, and nothing less. Using elements from various genres to help create their familiar yet unique sound. The obvious influences for UDE would be artists such as The Early November, Brand New or Thursday, but not so obvious bands have also helped educated the band to create the type of music that speaks for UponDeafEars. Whether u label (and I'm sure you will) the band as Emotional Hardcore (emo), Pop Punk, Indie or something else a bit more derogatory feel free, however the trio aren't going to lose any sleep over labeling their sound and would much prefer to create a opus like Radiohead did with "Ok Computer" or more recently Brand New with "Deju Entendu" something purely unique that speaks for them as a band, musicians and as people. However to develop "that sound" will take time, with the average age of the band being 19 the trio have plenty of time on there side. If you would like to hear what UponDeafEars sound is, feel free to come to a show or download a song by clicking the CD front in the discography section. UDE formed in the spring of 2004 however the 3 members of the band have been creating noise together since September 02, where Jake Mann, Phil Bailey and Paul Bradbury began writing songs and performing in a band known as "drop?out". However a mutual decision was reached in spring of 2004 to start UponDeafEars. With UDE the trio could write the music they feel is real to them as musicians rather than some of the music they were writing in drop?out. Since spring 04 all efforts have been concentrated into writing new material with the sound being more emotional and aggressive than before. Jake has taken on the role of lead vocalist with his smooth, dark voice with obscure yet poetical lyrics. With the melodic twists which also bring the occasional optimistic side to the music. With Bradbury's flamboyant but perfectly timed beats adding a dimension that only enhances the sound and song writing ability of the band. UponDeafEars have played a number of gigs since forming in March at: The Ministry - Shrewsbury, The Old Railway - Birmingham, Scruffy Murphy's - Birmingham, Assembly Rooms - Tamworth and Supporting The Keytones And Hurricane Party at the Little Civic in Wolverhampton. However UponDeafEars Are set to unleash their new material over the summer of 2004 with gig dates at the Ministry in Shrewsbury and A Headlining show at Birmingham's own Scruffy Murphy's on Friday July 16th 2004. The band have just finished recording their first professional EP entitled "With friends like you, who needs enemies?".
