The solo recording project of David Khan in the late 1994 - mid 1996 period, Vaccine served as a testing ground for musical ideas adopted and/or rejected by leonard Nimoy.
The primary components of the Vaccine sound mirrored those of the group project: Boss DR550MkII drum machine rhythms, dense ensembles of droning, heavily effected guitar/Akai AX60 analogue synth treatments & a variety of lo-fi samples, tape loops & dictaphone effects. To further flesh out his arrangements, David also made considerable use of live & sampled acoustic textures - everything from stainless steel sheets & drums to bits of glass, wood & cardboard.
All of these elements were welded together to create music ranging from angst-ridden, no-wave-inflected industrial rock to grave & elemental keyboard-based soundscapes that directly anticipated the later work of The Drawing Room.
In common with Peter Wright's Coitus/In Vitro project, David's Vaccine recordings are among kRkRkRk's definitive works in the industrial/ambient mode & epitomize the new seriousness & sense of purpose that pervaded the label at the time.
