I'm Foxglove9, an electronic musician from Brooklyn, NY.
Band/artist history
When Foxglove9 first started learning an instrument she was invited to play keyboards in a high school band called Purrgatory. Her first show, not even owning a synthesizer, she had to borrow a portable yamaha toy keyboard from a friend. In early 1992 she started experimenting with MIDI sequencing on a Korg M1 and 386/33 PC and became interested in writing music all to herself. When her band departed, she decided to pursue her solo career as a songwriter and begin sequencing music and experimenting with sampling, while her friend would supply the vocals when needed.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
I play live all over the city basically just about anywhere someone would let me play, I'll play it. There's a special energy playing live that I just love, I also appreciate the unexpectated things than can and usually do go wrong.
Your musical influences
My musical styles are influenced by old Video Games, Movie Scores, Classical, Industrial, Dark Techno, experimental and lo-fi sounds. Some of the artists that I've looked to for inspiration are NIN, Coil, Wendy Carlos, Yuzo Koshiro, and Alec Empire.
What equipment do you use?
I like using lo-fi, dirty, gritty, cheesy sounding instruments. The simpler the interface, the better, as I find limitations in instruments force me to be more creative. I also dabble in circuit bending a little because of the crazy noises than can be produced and creating a very unique instrument that no one else in the world has. Some equipment I use: Korg MS2000, Sidstation, Cheap Yamaha and Casio keyboards, Atari 2600 and an Airsynth..plus for mixing a Mac with Logic and Protools, with lots of softsynths and samplers.
