So life didn't turn out as planned, you aren't where you wanted to be—are you gonna do something about it?
Otherwise Otherwise
Love on the road can cause doubt in even the strongest relationships.
Call it "rock with a twang" or "country with an edge": Jaytee Minton's haunting voice and fingerstyle guitar work, combined with bittersweet ballads and edgy midtempo rockers, prove that she is more than "just" a powerhouse singer, she is an insightful songwriter and guitarist taking the first of a thousand musical steps.Band/artist history
After years in the club circuit writing and singing progressively heavier hard rock and metal, Jaytee Minton retreated from the music scene for several months and entered a period of soul-searching. "Music was my passion, but it had broken my heart so many timesthe joy had gone out of performing. I thought I had nothing left to say musically; I hadn't written a song for myself in years! It was always 'for the band' or according to their 'mission'. My composer's voice, my muse, was buried in the rubble of a string of failed bands, and I didn't even know where to begin to look for it."
She didn't have to. The muse found her. While mulling over the plot line of a movie she'd been watching, the opening lyrics and melody line for the aching ballad "Storm Rolls In" just popped into her head, out of the blue. She blew the dust off of her guitar and has never looked back. Songs began pouring out of her after being pent up for years.
In addition to possessing a powerful soprano that easily transitions from sultry softness to ear-bending wails, Jaytee Minton is a seasoned songwriter and a closet fingerstyle afficianado. Well-versed in theory, composition, and classical/folk guitar, she honed her vocal skills as a VIT student at Hollywood's Musicians Institute. For several years, she toured and recorded with many well-known Midwest bands, including Mind's Eye and Bonesgarage.
She is currently in the studio recording her debut solo CD, "Trace of Myself", scheduled for independent release in December 2004. The album features heartfelt ballads and edgy midtempo acoustic explorations filled with self-analysis and introspection. She juxatposes emotional verbage over deceptively complex melodic structures while straddling the fence between modern country and "girl-with-guitar" angst rock. The title song deals with the eternal questions haunting the adopted child; "No Matter What" is a summery, feel-good reflection on a long-lost relationship. Other lyrical themes delve into self-discovery, love in all of its forms, and metaphysical awareness.
She is actively seeking management and label representation. Samples of her music are available on her website, http://www.jayteeminton.com.Have you performed in front of an audience?Playing live is where the music shines, moreso than on an album, because it feeds off of the energy transference that occurs between the audience and artist. Once the music is committed to tape, it is permanently etched within the grooves of the CD, unchangeable. Live, a song is allowed to evolve and develop into something new with each performance while retaining the essence of its soul. I love to mess around in the studio, but to play live is to live the music.
