I've Been Doing This Whole Hip Hop Thing Now For Around 7-8 Years.. With The First 5-6 Of That Being Just a Hobby..
During That Period I Came Across An Artist Called Savage (Steven Ashcroft), From Darwen, And I Knew I Had Instantly Found a Talent In Him.
Now, After 4 Mixtapes Released, An Album In The Making, And Many Collaborationg Mix CD's Coming Soon, We Are Starting To Go Somewhere.
Myself, I've Not Been Doing Much.. Constantly Writing, But Never Recording. I've Built a Little Hype Amongst a Few People By Not Releasing Any Material, Which Is What I Wanted To Do Before I Started Going For The Top Spot.
Now I'm Going to Make That Move.. So Watch Me..Band/artist history
Began: 2000-2001
From the first day i decided to do this, i started going through different internet rap battle sites to help myself improve. I mean, none of the people around me was doing what i was doing, they may have been listening to rap, but they weren't actually rapping, therefore i had to seek other places for influences. I spent along period of time doing written text battles on websites such as "Goldmic" "Rapbattles.com" "Lyricalgods.com" "Lyricalassault" "Brickcity", but i eventually got tired of not actually using my talent on a microphone. I then did some audio battles, but i was losing the passion very quickly. In the end i said fuck it, and stopped with the internet stuff to pursure other type of rhyming, within my home town.
I brought along with me stephen ashcroft aka Savage, who i'd met on one of the sites. Savage was more confident on the microphone than me, and he quickly got a mixtape out.
2006
Savage released his first mixtape entitled "Work For Myself". With him being an artist from outside my city, it was going to be hard for him to get the attention of the fans, who were mainly locked into the "Grime Scene". However, we spent months selling this mixtape in the streets for 1 each!!!. The reaction from the mixtape was good, and it helped us both link up with other artists in the area that liked his style.
2007.
After selling around 100-200 copies of Work For Myself, Savage had made enough hard hitting tracks to create a second mixtape entitled "The Ill-itterate Pro". The moment i heard this, i put everything i was doing on hold, and fully became focused on making Savage known. I helped promote him as much as i could, and we spent another few months selling this cd on road, priced at 2 each. Although the amounts was small, it was enough to get by and help make his fanbase bigger. Through these mixtapes, local artists became very interested with working with Savage, and he quickly linked up with some of the best artists in Manchester. He later performed at an event set up by Briggzy and Hitman Projectz, in which i also got on stage and dropped a 2 minute diss i had in the making.
2008.
In early 2008, Savage unsuprisingly put together another mixtape whilst making tracks in the studio for the album. The album was to be entitled "Cold Up Norf", so fittingly he released the mixtape "Below Freezin'". By this time, he was getting known quite a bit, and he had a few indie labels trying to sign him. He was working with one of Manchester's finest producers (Kings Club), and making tracks in the finest studio in Manchester. However, underground label (UppaLevel Ent.) shown alot of interest in signing Savage, and half way through the year that happened. However, before Savage signed for Uppa Level, he created a 9 track mixtape, for the myspace fans, and allowed it to be on FREE DOWNLOAD. He knew this would be a good move and gain him even more recognition and fan support.
Currently.
I am still supporting Savage's movement, along with UppaLevel, and i am also still writing down my lyrics, with the notion of my promo cd (tba) dropping later in the year. Savage on the other hand, is making more moves with Uppa Level and is still performing.
