"Josh Rivera's way with music is simply astounding. His lyrics, smooth and charming, are written with a style that is similar to the ways of the amazing Sarah McLachlan. Easy listening and beautiful acoustic guitar rhythms top off Josh's awesome recordings and make his music enjoyable for any listener." -L. BoydBand/artist history
Ever since I could speak the most non-existant words, I've always been singing and playing my little muppets keyboard. My first musical instrument was the piano- as it is for many musicians out there. So after getting more involved in the music, playing, practicing, and learning, I finally recieved my first regular-sized keyboard.. But I wanted more. By this time, I was deep into my music, and I was infatuated with it. I'd been writing my own songs, inspired by my life and the world around me. Of course, at the time, I was still young, and the older I got, the more and more I would learn- and my songs would become more and more personal. About a year and a half ago, I decided I wanted something new. I wanted to do more. I noticed they were building a new store over by where I used to live- The name of this store: Guitar Center. Here, I would purchase my first guitars, amps, and dream of fufilling my ultimate goal: To be a professional musician, spreading my music throughout the world. I went through two guitars before finally finding the perfect one for me, which ironically was the one I wanted from the start. When I first went into the store, walking into the acoustic guitar room, I noticed this black guitar.. It stood alone from the others..I instantly wanted it. Unfortunately, the price tag didn't really fit my parents budgets. So, first I got a regular starter-pack acoustic guitar. It did nothing for me. Next, I got an electric guitar, very plain looking. It did nothing for me. Finally, I told my mom I was tired of getting these guitars that I seriously had no feel for, I told her flat out that the black guitar was the one I wanted. Everytime I went to guitar center I would always play that guitar.. it was waiting for me to take it home. I finally got it. I loved it. I would play everyday for everyday up until today, and I plan on continuing to. I named my guitar 'Black Guitar', because that's the beauty of which I fell in love with to begin with. I loved everything about it. The first songs I would learn to play were mostly Michelle Branch songs, along with other songs I loved. I'd soon start writing my own songs and melodies, putting it all together creating my own music.Have you performed in front of an audience?Yes, I love playing live. I've played at school functions and I've also recently played a gig on the fourth of July at a neighbors house. Everyone loved it and they booked me for next year, Haha. That's one of the things I'd love the most about being a musician.. Playing live.
