Experimental

The Beat Poet is 3 piece band. Very pretentious music but we are very sincere about it. We strive to be self contained as a band. We do all our own recordings and we are proud of this fact. The band consists of brothers, Ben and Tom Wolland, and fellow Wiganer, Rob Fairhurst. We do not stick to set instruments, instead choosing to swap around between guitar, bass, drum, keyboard and vocal duties.
Band/artist history
We were formed in January of 2004. We played our first gig on January 24th and haven't stopped gigging since. We have recorded a couple of demos, and we usually give out at selection of tracks for free at gigs. So far we have supported bands such as OXES, Jarcrew, 65daysofstatic and Youth Movie Soundtrack Strategies. We have done around 60 gigs to date (11.2.05).
Have you performed in front of an audience?
We play live everywhere. We have played in a public toilet. We played an outdoor festival last June. We love playing live. Surely that is the main reason for doing it? We have lots of special moments in the Beat Poet. It breaks up the tedium of long drives. Especially our theory about KFC chickens made entirely of legs.
Your musical influences
Sonic youth, Fugazi, At the drive-in, Mogwai, Sigur Ros, Radiohead, My Bloody Valentine, Jeff Buckley, Tim Buckley, Q and not U, Mars Volta and Queens of the Stone Age.
Anything else?
We all have beautiful girlfriends. Even though none of us have asymetrical haircuts.
