Electric Son
A Neo Jazz-Fusion experience waiting to unleash new artistic expression in time continuum. There is no limitation to its creativity. It incorporates Rock and Funk in a manner that blends seemlessly with Jazz overtones and harmony. It challenges the musicians as well as the listener.
Band/artist history
Electric Son was founded in 1991. Many musicians have participated in the group since then. Omar J. Cayasso keeps it alive as long as it continues to be financially feasible.
Originally, Electric Son started as an Electronic band called "Electric Son Unit." The initial band members were Omar J. Cayasso on Electric and Synth Guitar; James Payfer on Electronic Drums, and Michael Baker on Bass. Eventually, the group personnel changed and the Unit name was dropped to only "Elecric Son" as the music took on a Jazz Fusion flavor. The members then were Ian Van Cattenburch on 4 and 5 string Bass, Paul Frederick on Alto, Tenor and Soprano Sax, and Hyam Sosnow on Drums. The unit further split into a Jazz Funk unit that replace the drummer and sax player which Ian and Omar called "Odd Man Out." It consisted of Jan Shullerus on Tenor Sax and Flute; Sean O'Shea on drums. The group eventually solidified into Ian, Paul and Omar. A new drummer, Edgar Galindo, was added. As time went on, Ian left the bass chair for bigger and better things and was replaced by James Kirk on bass.
Through out the period it became difficult for Omar to financially keep the band going. He had to put an end to the project much to his sadness. He then proceeded to write solo materials based on electronic music that can be found at the homepage link.
Currently the band is back where it originally started but with a twist. James and Omar decided to form Diverse Music Production to write music for the entertainment industry. In the meantime Omar's efforts are turning into writing Jazz Fusion with Twentieth Century Music techniques for the next performing incarnation of Electric Son. In the meantime, he hopes the listener participate in this continuing evolutional saga of a local band that has establishing itself as mythical legend through the Internet.
So, look forward for some new interesting developments just around the corner.
