Squawkbox: an eclectic mix of many different styles though rock based. Main genres include rock, reggae, punk, blues. We have 2 amazing trumpet players who alternate shows. People have tried to classify us but are unable to as we even have a country and a folk song.Band/artist history
Formed in SLC during the winter of 2002, Squawkbox has become a delicious standout in the local music scene. The band is known for it's unique sound which is punctuated by tasty trumpet stabs, soapy bass lines and annihilatingly smooth guitar work. Drums: Patrick Sisk, who was recruited from the Bay Area, has been pounding the skins for the last 22 years. Influenced heavily by the ferocity of Keith Moon and the technical perfection of Mike Portnoy, there is nothing this drummer can't do with a pair of sticks.
Guitar/Vocals: Much like a butcher with a meat tenderizer, Dick Pacific pounds the guitar into submission and serves it raw. Dick also helps out as the coordinator of all party business. The songwriterhumanitarian has produced 13 CD's spanning genres such as classical, hardcore, folk and techno.
Bass/Vocals: Jack Marcus, the braintrust of Fubeca has written several great songs for the band. His classicaly trained vocals cut through the mix and deliver the lyrics with the biting realism. Jack's bass grooves help form the bedrock of the band's rockin' rhythm.
Trumpet: Quite possibly the most talented musician in the Salt Lake music scene, Kelly Ricks' ripping trumpet creates the unique sonic experience that is Squawkbox. Her fluid improvisation skills coupled with the orbital leads of the trumpet are the band's secret weapon that few can resist. Kelly attended Juliard and has subbed for both the Utah Symphony and the Honolulu Symphony. She rocks. Occasionally, Steve Bigelow subs for Kelly and vice versa.Have you performed in front of an audience? We play live locally in Utah. We love live shows and people say we sound better live. Special moments include having fans sing songs with us, taping then listening to our first radio interview, amazing t-ville rec center pool party, and being third in consideration for the one local spot on the Lolapalooza out of 56 bands in 2003.
