My trio is very straight ahead in a traditional jazz mold. Red Garland and Gene Harris have been big influences. On my upcoming CD release called Can't Stop No

Geoffrey Aymar Jazz Pianist/Composer
Have you performed in front of an audience?
I play regularly at the Beverly Hills Hotel and various other fine establishments around Los Angeles. I especially enjoy working with my trio at the Polo Lounge (Bev Hill Hotel) for the Sunday brunch. I'm also playing nightly at the Fairmont Miramar Hotel in lovely Santa Monica, California. My group has occassionaly played for some swing dance clubs such as the Lindy Groove in Pasadena which is always a fun time.
Your musical influences
I have enjoyed and learned (stolen) from just about every jazz (and other styles) pianist there is. From Oscar Peterson and Gene Harris to Bud Powell and Bill Evans. I have been inspired by them all. I have a real affinity for the bluesier side of things and at the same time love melody of all shapes and sizes. I started out playing the guitar in rock bands while studying jazz so my musical taste has always been fairly eclectic..from the Beatles to Bach and beyond.
What equipment do you use?
Well..whatever piano the venue has...I play. I also use a Yamaha YP80 for non acoustic gigs. For a trio recording I did years ago I used a Steinway and recently I recorded with a Bosendorfer which was an amazing instrument. I own a Yamaha upright that I really love and look forward to one day finding the piano of my dreams..and the space to put it in.
Anything else?
I'm looking forward to releasing a quartet CD of all original music with the great guitarist Larry Koonse, magnificent drummer Kendall Kay and terrific bassist/poet and all around good guy David May
