Music Video - an Art?
I have chosen this subject for my essay, because of my passion for music and the questions raised by this fascinating medium, especially in this age of radio, film and television taking music to new heights, and opening new views and opinions about this phenomenal industry. Being a musician myself I can see the parallels between film and music, and how they fit hand in hand. When listening to music we create our own mental pictures or our own music video inside our heads if you like. So the idea of these visions being created for us really interests me.
Are music videos a form of art? Looking for information on this subject I have discovered that the nature of the music video is quite heavily debated, for instance Thom Yorke, of ‘Radio Head’ says “Most people believe music videos to be an art. In reality they are just adverts, much like that for a car” To an extent this is true, as many videos are produced just as a way of getting an artists song played on
