Ska

The Miasmics are a 7-piece band from northern NJ. They play a catchy mix of ska, rock, funk & reggae, that people of all ages seem to enjoy. They have shared the stage with bands like The Slackers, Flogging Molly, The Toasters, Big D & the Kids Table, King Django, Westbound Train, Neville Staples of The Specials, and many more. Last year, they performed at the Skate & Surf Fest in Asbury Park, NJ, sharing the bill with bands like Andrew WK, Goldfinger, The Used, Reel Big Fish, Taking Back Sunday and many others. More recently, they were featured on a 4-disc Ska compilation entitled, "Still Standing", which also featured songs by The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Buck-o-Nine, Forces of Evil, Westbound Train, Big D & the Kids Table, Let's Go Bowling and many others.
Band/artist history
The Miasmics formed somewhere between 7th and 8th grade. We played our very first show under the name Equal to Harry (a takeoff on Better than Ezra and Less Than Jake). ETH soon morphed into The Miasmics, and I celebrated by quitting and forming another band. The Miasmics went on to become a very popular local act, often playing fundraisers at local churches and high schools, and never failing to draw insane crowds from the surrounding towns. In 2001 they released their first EP, and their first full-length album followed a year later. I celebrated by rejoining them. Putting their high school days behind them, The Miasmics have gone on to perform all over New Jersey, as well as in NY, NYC, PA, CT and OH. We are currently hard at work on our 2nd full-length album, and are also planning our 2nd east coast tour.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
Yes, we play live whenever and wherever we can. Our greatest strength as a band has always been in live performance, and because we tend to improvise and change our songs around spontaneously on stage, we have been called a "jam" band by some. We try to record our live shows whenever we can, and encourage our fans to record and trade our shows (as long as they are not sold!)
