Acoustic Rock

Seattle-based FIREWEED execute a style unique to the rock world, ripped straight from its blue-collar roots. Raw-edged, passionate, and engaging, Fireweed forges blues, Americana and rock to form a distinctive sound with broad appeal. Drawing as much from older, traditional influences, like Dylan and Cash, as from contemporaries such as Uncle Tupelo, Cobain, and Lanagan, Fireweed offers up a rugged blend of rock-flavored anti-folk. Vice's artfully applied guitar textures and powerful vocal harmonies nicely offset Enga's unique voice and rough charisma as storyteller and front-man, weaving a tapestry of inviting melodies, dynamic harmonies, crushing honesty and a lasting, hooky, pop sensibility. John Enga, singer/songwriter/producer, cut his musical teeth playing in Seattle during the late 80's and early 90's. He also went on to start his own label, and produce records during the late 90's. Kelley Vice, partner in crime and lifelong friend of Enga, multi-instrumental singer/songwriter/producer and guitarist of over 25 years, has produced many recording projects and has almost 100 songs representing a diverse variety of genres in his own musical catalogue. Originally an acoustic venture of Enga's, the songs took on a life of their own when Enga hooked up with Vice and the two began work on their debut album Dreams of the Black Dog, to be released on Ebola Records in early 2004. The songs became more rock in nature as the musical roots of the duo rose to the surface, striking an interesting blend of folkish honesty and the emotional power and intensity of their rock backgrounds. Enlisting the help of Jon Hedges, Berklee School student and veteran Seattle drummer of such bands as Inflatable Soule, Throttle Rod, and Kindred, Fireweed has begun to spread its musical vision to live audiences in the Northwest. Although their debut album Dreams Of The Black Dog was recorded as a rock production, core members John Enga and Kelley Vice can be found performing at open mics and acoustic shows around the Seattle area several times a week as an acoustic duo.
