Varuna Biography (excerpt by Matthew Daley):
[Varuna is] composed of five of the most talented kids to come out of the south side of Chicago, has one of the most unique and refreshing sounds to be heard.
The band fronted by lead singer and rhythm guitarist Nick Blazina has a vocal range that can go from a deep primitive growl from the pit of his stomach, to a serenading soothing voice that could lay any child to sleep. Nick’s right hand man is a kid with amazing talent named Brian Murphy. Mr. Murphy has a style all his own with a mixture of hard core metal and classic blues. Bass player Sarah Rodriguez keeps the groove with pounding lines that make the room shake. Melissa Harris is in control of the keyboards. She has an unmistakable ear for catchy riffs, loops, and sound effects that make every song that much better. The backbone and rhythm section of the band is kept by Dave Garcia. Dave has a stage presence that I have never seen any drummer with, and he plays with enough aggression for every teenager in America.
The CD does not do [Varuna] justice. What really keeps bringing in the crowds is the live shows. The band has a stage presence that makes you pay attention to them and no else. They have a look that is a combination of the 80’s glam scene and 90’s rock n’ roll.
Now that this band is out there I think that we all will be seeing them following the same path as other Chicago legends such as Urge Overkill, The Smashing pumpkins, Kill Hannah, Local H, and Veruca Salt. It is now only a matter of time before they are on top of the rock n’ roll world.
