Torn Down Units play a unique blend of Rock n' Roll, Punk, Surf and Country music. They have been rocking since 1998 and are well known for their furious live show.Band/artist history
Torn Down Units (hereafter referred to as TDU) has been rocking Ontario since the late 1990s. The band was formed by Orangeville-based singer/guitarist Ian “Ian Unit” Coburn who enlisted the help of old friends Chris Mullen (bass), Dean Morrison (drums) and Dustin Dinoff, a.k.a. The Duster (guitar) to generate a unique rock n’ roll sound he hadn’t been hearing enough of. The guys have turned TDU’s sound into something comparable with little else out there right now. This is best demonstrated on the band’s third release, “Love, Lost, Still Standing”, which is without question the band’s strongest offering to date. In addition to nine brand new songs, it features remastered bonus tracks from “A Fatal Blow of Rock n’ Roll”, TDU’s previous release. Before that, the band made its mark with “Rock Out or Get Out”, it’s first offering.
Interestingly, all the members of TDU have known each other most of their lives, first crossing paths as children in a Caledon, Ontario public school. The four attended the same high school just outside of Brampton, Ontario, where they all played for separate bands, often sitting in on each other’s sets. None of them could have predicted they’d be playing together again many years later.
The band has played all over southern Ontario, including stops in Toronto, Hamilton, London, Guelph, Ottawa and Orangeville. It was also the only musical outfit brave enough to entertain the people of Walkerton, Ontario only one day after news of the now infamous Ecoli water scandal broke. The Units play regularly in Toronto at great musical institutions like the El Macambo, Sneaky Dee’s, The Horseshoe Tavern and The Silver Dollar Room, and other up-and-coming venues like The B-Side and Rancho Relaxo, along side bands like Zen Guerilla, Tricky Woo, Cheerleader, Sticky Rice, Levi Ride, Battlestar, Falls River Fiends, Supagroup and many others. Many happy music lovers have left TDU shows somehow reminded of The Supersuckers, The Stooges, Nashville Pussy and early Rolling Stones; all killer bands, so the comparisons don’t bother the Units at all.
TDU’s mandate is to keep the fires of rock n’ roll burning hotter than ever in an age where the only music getting attention (be it positive or negative) is conceived in a board room, not a jam space, and is void of any wit, charm or substance. TDU isn’t the solution to this troubling problem that has no foreseeable end or solution, but it is an alternative, designed for people who still believe in the power of rock n’ roll. The TDU sound continues to evolve as the band’s legend grows exponentially with every show.Have you performed in front of an audience?Frquently play numerous clubs in Toronto.
