we are a 5 piece melodic hardcore band from minneapolis, mn. we draw influences from bands like taken, the hope conspiracy, strung out, shai hulud, etc.Band/artist history
A false notion formed in march of 2003, with each of its members sharing the same passion to play melodic, hardcore music. The five members came together from different areas around minneapolis, mn. With the majority of the bands from the area being metal/metalcore, the band wanted to bring something faster and more melodic into the scene.
The band started to practice non-stop, and began playing some local shows. They continued playing into the beginning of summer 2003, including a few with local bands nehemiah and with dead hands rising. In early july 2003, the band ran into a conflict with guitar player, Joe Zimmerman. It was mutual decision for Joe and a false notion to split ways. At this time, bassist casey hjelmberg, switched to fill Joe's spot on guitar. To fill the empty role on bass, the band picked up their good friend, nick nelson. With the new line up they started practing and re-writing all new songs with more passion to create a fuller sound, drawing influences from bands like taken, strung out, fordirelifesake, shai hulud, etc. Along with their music's change in pace, the band also wanted to send out a stronger message. Too many bands get caught up in being idolized, and are playing music for the wrong reasons. A false notion has always been, and always will be, about rocking out and having fun. If people can relate to the music, it makes it all the better.
After the line-up change, and all new material written, a false notion was finally ready to record. The band went into the studio in November 2003 to record a demo. Guitarist Shamus Helgason recorded and mixed the demo at his school. In the following months after finishing the demo, the band then played a handful of shows, and the response was huge. Within the first couple shows, all 100 copies of the demo were sold. Feeling that their linup was now solid as a rock, they were prompted to look ahead into the future of the band. They began discussing and working out minor details for a tour in the upcoming summer. Basically, all a false notion wants to do is take their message on the road and rock for as many people as possible.Your musical influences
