Words some tend to live by, and that's the case with Downshift. Five guys from the midwest wanted to bring something new to the music scene, and herein lies what Downshift is...........Band/artist history
DOWNSHIFT IS: Davex (vocals), DC (guitars), Paul (bass), Cameron (drums), Micha (noise and FX)
In the summer of 1999 Paul, Dan, and Cameron were playing in a new school metal band called FI. While exploring new musical territory, the band broke up in June of 1999, and everyone went their separate ways. Some went on to form other pioneering new school metal bands like 1h87 and OGP. But, Dan and Cameron stayed in the basement and continued writing, recording, and exploring. Paul went on to join OGP. Dan and Cameron planned on starting something new with the material that they were working on, which would later become the backbone of Downshift’s set. Paul introduced Dan and Cameron to two other guys who were looking for a band, one happened to sing, and the other did tables and weird noises. After realizing how hard it is to find people to do these things, Dave and Micah were in the band. Now, all they needed was a bass player. Dan and Cameron were friends with a guy named Matt who played bass in a band called Dizzy, which, later, became Twitch. He was also looking for something new. Everyone talked it over and the lineup was complete, Dave (Davex) on vocals, Dan (DC) on guitars, Cameron on drums, Matt on bass, and Micah on tables and effects. Now, the hunger set in and the band worked hard to produce six audible songs to attempt to play in public. By October of 1999 Downshift was ready to play shows. They played with anyone and everyone they could. This experience showed them a few things. When people come to a show, that’s what they want, a show. The music does speak for itself, there needed to be a visual element as well. The band worked out an elaborate light show to accompany their hard-hitting music. With the desire in their hearts and the motivation in their minds, they lived Downshift. They pushed as hard as they could for a year and a half. In fall of 2000, the bands musical relationship with Simon went south. They needed a new, eccentric bass player. The first person to pop in their heads was the guy who basically got the band together in the first place, Paul. After a month of pleading with him, he agreed to join the band. Now, with Paul on bass, and new goals in mind, the band is working harder than ever, writing, recording, promoting, trying to see who will listen to them.
As of Janurary 2002, we have a new member...Jimmy from another local Omaha band called 1h87. Jimmy adds more low end to Downshift's sound, and is a welcome addition on stage as well...
