Shipwreck Ghosts © BDY January 22, 2009
One early autumn morning in 1884
A heavy bunk of fog layin’off was all we had in store
We were begging for adventure and she was calm and still
But Lord our God is full of might the winds obey his will
Angels on the water in the Bay of Fundy
Three merchant sailors a ridin’ on the sea
Elisha was the captain the light he was called
But in the darkness the bay made ghosts of us all
A livin’ from the sea
Was our only shred of pain
We started out as angels
But shipwreck ghosts we all became
The clouds began to scud across like just before a gale
Elisha saw a vision of his wife up in the sales
Warning fools about the weather a bad feeling was cast
Upon three stranded mariners that shipped before the mast
It was the dreadful kind of storm like in the stories old folks tell
John Jones kissed his worry beads when we heard the mission bell
As the Pinky stove to splinters on the reef for ever
