When You're Dead When You're Dead

Anti-hero message with a grinding guitar and machine-like pace. Jerry Gaskill, of King's X performs on this one.

Rock n Roll

When you are looking for heavy American rock and roll and cannot find it in the cookie cut, bubble-gum music on the radio, be glad you found SOULBREAD. The name says it all. The music is fluid and thought provoking. Their lyrics are relative to all who listen. The music will make you move. Take a hit, scroll down, enjoy the ride, and pass it along...
Band/artist history
Soulbread began in late 1995 as a four piece, but as the sound changed, so did the line up. In 1998, they released their first independent release, "Self Rising", which charted on the CMJ rock / alternative charts. Thnaks mostly to a positive reception from the college stations, WAWL 91.5 in particular. The band streamlined to a three piece in 1999 and began recording their second independent release, simply titled "Soulbread. (note: there are 3 songs in the music section from this release.) With this album, the band performed with such acts as Stroke 9, Days of the New, King's X, American Pearl, 8 Stops 7, the Katies, Tidewater Grain, SR-71 and many others. While trying to gain a foothold in the music industry, the band was discovered by Doug Pinnick of King's X who saw them on tour in Birmingham at the Nick with another great band, the Unsatisfied, and a friendship was formed. Doug Pinnick invited the group to record at his studios in Houston, TX last summer. But with success, came more tragedy, and the band lost founding member and drummer Chris Wilson and the search was on for a replacement. In the interim, Jerry Gaskill, also of King's X, performed the percussion on their latest studio recordings and has also hinted at touring with the group. For now, check out a sample of the unfinished material in the music section. The song is called, "When You're Dead".
Have you performed in front of an audience?
We've played in Nashville, Knoxville, Atlanta, Chattanooga, and all throughout the southeast. Our favorite gigs are the Masquerade, Smiths Olde Bar, Dark Horse Tavern, Third & Lindsley, and the Exit / In. Playing with 8 Stops 7 and Days of the New was a definite high-point for us, but a recent concert with SR-71 and Stroke 9 really showed us that our fanbase has grown tremendously. Since then we've performed with Geek, Pound Hound, King's X, American Pearl, and many others. We love our "breadheads"!
Your musical influences
Mother Love Bone, Creed, Pearl Jam, Pink Floyd, Elvis
What equipment do you use?
Crate, Peavy, Les Paul, Aquarian, Gibralter, Musicman, Mesa Boogie, and others
Anything else?
We love local independent music and there is a lot of great talent in our hometown that deserves recognition.
