Silver Lining was a group of talented high school girls who loved to sing. I ran a Coffeehouse series at Oak Hill High School where I taught English, and I accompanied them when they performedat first individually, and then collectively. At the beginning of their senior year, we decided to make a recording. We recorded this in my home studio over the course of that school year, finishing the project just in time for graduation. It was a huge hit with the graduating class, their families and the faculty of the school. Silver Lining was: Christina Thibault, Katrina Freedman, Jen Hinkley, Crystal Brissette, Jessica Bragdon and Ai Matsumoto, our wonderful Japanese exchange student. The recording was done on a Roland VS-1680, which I learned on the fly that year. I did the mixing with help from Christina Thibault, who also did the cover art. The mics used were borrowed from my old friend Don Hinkley. Additional musicians included Jim Schram, guitar; Kim Blais, accordion; John Neal, keyboards; Greg Boardman, viola; Adam Frederick, bass; and Mike Hanson, percussion. I played guitar, mandolin, bass, Dobro and synth. We did most of our recording sessions on Sunday afternoons. By the time May arrived, we agreed that the title of this recording project could only be A Month of Sundays.
