Concentric adds its own chapter to modern dance music with a delicate yet ruthless blend of electronic house and high-octane power. Playing over sixty-five dates on their 2003 summer tour including bills with Ween and The New Deal, the Burlington, VT trio has honed its live show consisting of virtually nonstop sets of synth sweeps and melodies, relentless human drumming, and throbbing bass. With a follow-up to their self-titled debut EP on the way, Concentric continues to help redefine what a band can sound like. Ranging from smooth R&B to progressive rock to house anthems, Concentric's influences take shape to create music that is extremely catchy, constantly danceable, and technically interesting. With silky vocal samples, pulsing bass, and unceasing kick drum. Drummer Tobias Rower, bassist Aram Bedrosian, and keyboardist/ programmer Tim Marcus are aimed at setting their mark in the worlds of House, Electronic, and Progressive music.Band/artist history
Well - as usual I wrote out a wonderful history of my band, and as soon as I was finished my mac crashed. So here is the condensed version:
1. We all were in bands in Burlington, VT
2. Our group originated as a side project to these bands
3. Those band broke up at about the same time so we got more serious
D. We started playing like post-rock, mellow yet loud and hard
E. After playing more and more we streamlined the sound
6. Eventually we were playing house music, and the guitar was replaced by synths and samplers
7. Here we are now, after almost 2 years, and many live shows under our belt playing house music exclusively, and working on developing our name in the Northeast.Have you performed in front of an audience? We did a lot of touring this past summer - we loved it. When we are in front of the right crowd, our music really makes people happy and that in turn makes us really happy.
Your musical influences
Underworld, Kiss, Tears For fears - what? There is a lot of stuff in the mix. I used to study bluegrass guitar, now I play synthesizers. Aram our bassist was in a really progressive band before Concentric - so he is a hard rocker at heart. Toby was in a progressive rock band as well. We draw our influences from an ocean of artists. If you opened the door of our tour van at any given point who knows what you'd hear - but do not be surprised when it is Peter Cetera's Glory of Love...What equipment do you use?
Yay! I get to describe the gear! First of all, we have a live drummer and bass player. Tobias plays a really small kit - one Ayotte kick drum with 2 small snare drums and a heap of high hats and cymbols. Aram plays a Ritter bass through a Trace head and some beat up old Carvin cabs that make his bass sound great somehow.
As for me, I use 3 synths and a sampler - I have an old Sequential Circuits Pro-1 which I rebuilt myself, a Roland Alpha Juno, a Virus indigo (so choice) and a roland sp-808 sampler that we primarily use for the vocals and extra texture. There used to be guitar in that mix, but I started leaving it at home recently and I sampled most of my parts. Ahh...evolution.Anything else?
We do most of our recording ourselves on my rig, and send the files out to our friend Augie Agosti LA who has more experience mixing than we do. We are always trying some new way to get our music out there - and I am really glad to be a part of this site.
