On and On On and On
While working with Hoppers13 Tim also decided to head out as a solo singer/songwriter in 2002 attempting to make his mark on the Philadelphia scene. This allowed him to broaden his musical horizons and explore more ideas. Philadelphia and the surrounding area should soon feel his impact. He has a continued relationship with local musician/songwriter/producer Scott Bricklin who has the production and bass duties on Tims first solo EP A Different Story. Local friends Ben Arnold and Matt Muir help tie it all together. There are just some irresistible songs on this album including the title track A Different Story. Tunes like HollyAnne and MUSE are sure to perk up some ears. His music is personal, catchy, melodic and downright pretty sometimes with a perfect blend of edge and atmosphere to keep it interesting. Tim is currently being courted by a few local labels and has had some of his tunes featured in independent film as well. Its a great start, says Tim All I can hope for is that people dig my stuff. He seems to get good feedback wherever he goes
Band/artist history
Growing up, Tim Butler learned to truly appreciate music. Most of his time was spent listening to all kinds of music, good, bad and sometimes even ugly. He just was taking it all in. His parents treated music kind of like food their motto was at least try it. Like most kids Tim spent time with G.I Joe, Wacky Packies, Action Figures and figuring out what the latest was with Starsky and Hutch Damn cool car! But he always had the Panasonic Tape recorder (you know the ones with the little orange Record button right in the middle of the Play button) close by playing the cassette of the moment.
Tims formative years were spent in pretty normal small town PA Middle America, goofing off, doing the school-thing, playing sports and trying to get a waffle-ball game in between school and dinner. Music was pursued early on as Tim decided to use his voice for some good! For many years choirs and school musicals did the trick. While in college Tim decided he needed instruments too. So he picked up a guitarmeanwhile teaching himself drums, bass and piano on the side. This was a key time when Tim put all the pieces together for playing, singing and songwriting. Tims music reflected some of his favorites at the time including Matthew Sweet, Velvet Crush and Michael Penn although he is admittedly a music-whore he leans more towards loud, melodic pop. His latest hard-ons include the Foo Fighters, Superdrag, Weezer and local Philly musicians Jim Boggia, IKE and 4Way Street.
In 1995 the Hoppers13 collaborative was formed with Tim at the helm. Although the band saw several line-up changes it became most well recognized with Tim as songwriter, guitar boy and front man and local musicians Rick Delana (Bass), Richard Sebolt (Guitar) and Sean McCook (Drums). Hoppers13 took its own brand of Pop / Rock and Roll all over Philadelphia, New York, Boston and New Jersey. These boys brought the juice baby! Tim brought his pop-sense, crunchy guitars and hooks to this project. Four CDs later Hoppers13 will go down in local history for tunes like Crash Nation, The Spins, Superstition and a juiced-up rendition of Tom Jones hit Shes a Lady.
