Behind My Music
Hello, I’m TruLyric and I would love for my fans to understand my music and where it all comes from. I have been in love with music since I was very young. Music has always been an outlet for me to express my thoughts, feelings, needs, desires, pain, and joy. The lyrics that I write are about my family, friends, and just my life in general. When I sit down to write a song, it comes from my mood and how I’m feeling that day, or things that are happening around me. I enjoy writing about love, peacefulness, and things that I wouldn’t be able to say without me placing it into a song. I have always enjoyed being behind the scenes where no one could know that it was me doing the work. I have been shy when it comes to certain things within my life for many years. So now that I am stepping out into the bright spotlight, I feel like I need to take a moment and really get focused on the words I write. I want them to really say something and make you want to listen and love the music you’re listening to. Now you can see who I am, I’m no longer hidden!
I have always been a jazz lover. Jazz makes my eardrums dance with glee and I can just feel the passion and pleasure that went into each song. Gospel and old school soul/r&b have really made a big impact on my life as well. I started out singing gospel when I was about five years old and that feeling of joy and respect that it gave me has never left my heart. Sometimes I’ll be in my car with my kids and I’ll just begin to sing “What A Friend We Have In Jesus” and the kids just join right in with me. It’s a beautiful feeling! It’s a feeling you can’t get with another genre, if you ask me! Old school music just has a way of telling you a really deep story and then pulling you in, so that you want to hear how it’s going to end. Sometimes before they began to sing, they would talk to you for a moment to help you understand where they were coming from. When a male artist performed on stage back then and would begin to move and thrust his hips, you knew he meant business in that song, and every female in the crowd would go wild. I love it! Country music, tells a story, but in a different way. With country music, I feel like all I need is my guitar and some drums, the rest will follow later. They party with just those two and everybody’s having a great time singing along. With R&B, I’ve always felt that when I turn it on, I’m either going to want to dance, grab my guy and get real close, or cry. I feel like the artist pours their emotions into the song, and that’s what makes it so great! My music gathers all of the above genres and meshes it all together to create my unique style. My songs are bold, yet soft, calm, but yet bring excitement.
