Birmingham AL, United States (2010 present) Brent Alan Bennett (born April 19, 1990) in Birmingham, AL), better known by his stage name Granyte, is an up-and-coming rapper, writer, producer, and promoter and CEO of Self Made Heroes Musik. In 2010 he released his first mixtape, Zettai Ryouiki. He signed a multi-label contract with Imperial Rekordz in 2011, but they phased in out in January of 2012. Since 2010 he has released 2010s Visions, 2011s Out the GateS EP and LP, 2011s Return of X3, 2012's Zettai Ryouiki and is currently working on 2012s #SELFMADEHEROES, the next mixtape. The release date is sceduled for June 18th. Granyte is from Remlap, Alabama and was raised by his Mother and Adoptive Father. Granyte explained the start of his stage name was based on the first song he ever did. It was a remix of Fed Up, and the last two bars were Writing till I have the tighest flow on the planet/ Calling Breezy the rock, cause Im the whitest known granite/ His mentor Major Sherard (Strange Wayz) started having the rest of the group call him Granite, because he didnt have a stage name at that point. He changed the I to a Y because it looked cooler.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
Yes. I've been playing at the Zyedco, which is at 5 Points South in Birmingham, AL. I love it so much. My favorite moment so far was when I forgot the last verse to a song I was doing. So I just started shouting "What" and the crowd was loving it, then someone jumped up on stage and knock the mic outta my hand on accident. It was hilarious.
Your musical influences
I think Childish Gambino, Mike Shinoda, MAJA, Linkin Park, Eminem, Hopsin, and Royce da 5'9'' are my biggest influence.
What equipment do you use?
A Toshiba laptop, Samson Go Mic, and Audacity for recording, and FL Studio for making beats. Pretty good all around.
Anything else?
I'll say it 1000 times, I'm not nerdcore, I'm a nerd who raps. I'm not backpack, I just speak out. Listen, and stop judging.
