Why are you listening to Dantes Lament music? Chances are, if you are listening to Dantes Lament, then someone has probably given you one of our CDs because they like our music and because they think you will, too. Maybe youve been to one of our shows we played across the northeast and youve become a fan. Maybe youve seen our name in the Village Voice a few times and youre interested in what we sound like. In any case, what you are listening to is a band that shares excitement, not only in playing music, but in listening to it as well; just like you. With over 8 years of history, Dantes Lament, a four-piece rock band out of Brooklyn, has morphed with the times in order to create its own sound. We gather influence from different places in music and different experiences and times in our lives. When the band started out, we were listening to a lot of hard rock . This lasted a while and gave us the edge we still garner in our sound today. As we grew in age, we also grew in our musical preferences. We started enjoying improvisational live music. The idea of true spontaneity and revolving set lists made for a desire to see multiple shows by various artists. We started writing songs of lighter touch and danceable grooves, mostly with live performance in mind. We hit the streets with an anything can happen form of playing and stage presence. Our sets were unpredictable and packed with energy. Although we enjoyed what we were doing, we felt that Dantes Lament had more to offer than just a killer live show. We knew we had a lot of emotion inside of us and we wanted to portray this in our music. Times had gotten tough and we knew that the only way out was to stick together and write more music. In late 2002, Dantes Lament stopped playing live. We locked ourselves in a small practice space under the Manhattan Bridge and vowed not to emerge until we had the sound we were looking for; a sound that would appeal to the masses, while maintaining musical integrity. Many people have asked us what we sound like and, like most bands, we have a hard time answering that question. Weve decided to let the people answer. Most people who hear Dantes Lament say that it sounds very familiar, but that they cannot quite put their finger on it. This is because we draw influence from our idols, but try hard not to emulate them. If we wanted to sound exactly like other bands, then we might as well put on one of their records and unplug our instruments. Dantes Lament is a mixture of distorted grooves, relatable lyrics, memorable hooks, and true four-man musicianship. So what do you think of Dantes Lament?
