Band/artist history
Morose was started in the winter of 1997 by Tony Barnes on guitar and vocals and Piers Alexander on drums. Originally a sludge / noise band the line-up was completed by Alex Palmer and Steve Vern on guitars and Paul Collins on Bass. Steve and Paul soon left. Steve went on to play bass in Gundog whilst Paul went on to do vocals in Kilkus and subsequently JunkDNA. This fledgling line-up was eventually completed by Chris Thackerbury on Bass. This fourpiece played only one show to a Partisan hometown crowd.
The music had now progressed and the blastbeat had begun to dominate.
Following some drunken boasts at Ozzfest Martin Ives joined on vocals. After a few gigs some tension was beginning to show, Al and then Chris left in quick succesion. Al has gone on to play in Scalplock and Death of an Electric Citizen.
Eventually Steve Vern returned, this time on bass. In the spring of 1999 morose hit the studio for the first time to record the ill fated Negative MCD, abandoned by the soon to be defunct Caustic Records. This line-up played only one gig at summer festival, shortly followed by Steve's departure.
Andy Rawlings now took on the poisoned chalice of morose bass player. This was the beginning of a good period for morose playing a lot of shows with some great bands and forming some firm friendships. It was time to record again and from this the split 7" with Narcosis was released by Deathstill Records. With another step forward it was time for another step back and Martin left, Martin went on to join Labrat as co-vocalist.
Some shows were played as a three piece before ex Stoopi and Kilkus man Rich Sansford joined on guitar. After a handful of shows Paul Watson of FSTY completed this version of morose as vocalist. After some shows and a practice space CDr Rich & Andy (Cheech & Chong) decided to leave Andy still plays for Set In Silence and was later joined by Rich.
After a year of morose going as a 3 piece Drums, Guitar and Vocals and a successful tour of Ireland, long time friend Spencer Davies completed the line-up on Bass, now as a four piece and a new recording who knows what the future will hold for morose.
