Band/artist history
The Porch Junkies were formed in the late 20th century on a Long boring Island just east of New York City. Two guys named Erick weave a frenzied yet melodic guitar tapestry that hangs from the solid rhythmic edifice erected by drum and bass duo Raw Dog and Stinky. Stories about hills, pills, sunsets, and suburban smog are carefully pinned to the walls completing the "ThrashingAcidCountryBlues" motif that they have meticulously crafted. Shortly after forming in early 1999 the Porch Junkies were announced the victors of a prominent battle of the bands contest at one of Long Island's most popular venues, Mulcahy's. They have been featured in the Long Island Entertainment publication as well as Aural Fix Communique. A half-hour spotlight was dedicated to them on WGBB's Long Island Rock Live radio show. In February 2003 the Porch Junkies were asked to participate in WBAB's Homegrown showcase where they were in turn awarded a generous gift certificate from Sam Ash for the band with the biggest draw. The first half of 2003 also showed the Junkies in the top 20 two independent music charts with their Emily Brookes Records release, "Tribute to the Hills" In June of 2003 the band was selected to compete in the Long Island Music Festival sponsored by Good Times Magazine where they won the first round of the competition. Later they got an opening slot for Dizzy Reed of Guns N Roses fame. http://www.porchjunkies.tk Eric Young PORCHJUNK@aol.com 631-422-3468
Have you performed in front of an audience?
There is nothing more spiritual than connecting with a live audience. We often play live shows in the Long Island and New York City areas. These shows are huge events and we suggest that if you have the opportunity to be with us that you don't pass it up.
Your musical influences
Music that bleeds from the artist. Blind Melon, Guns N Roses, Led Zeppelin, Black Crowes, Hendrix, CSN, Simon and Garfunkel, Chili Peppers, and many, many more
What equipment do you use?
Gibsons, Fenders, Marshalls, and Marlboros
Anything else?
We are desperately trying to bring back smart and soulful guitar rock in the tradition of the greats like Zeppelin and Hendrix, but with a modern spin. Check us out, you won't be disappointed. I love shameless self promotion!
