Band/artist history
Evolving from an eclectic and extensive background, Five Years Gone formed in April of 2002. The members emerged from 2 former projects, which had successfully produced a strong and recognizable impact in the Buffalo Local Music scene. When these projects disbanded, the current members saw an opportunity to form something from the remains and began to reorganize. Vocalist TJ Frost (former front of Yellow No. 5) moved from New York City and contacted guitarist Carl Pace. The two began to gather ideas and make decisions about the direction they wanted the project to take. It took them to drummer Dan Nelligan which, in turn, led them to bassist Steve Crowl (both formerly of Skungk). With a solid lineup they began taking steps to accomplish what they knew was necessary for the band to get off the ground and back into the eye of the public. They built a private practice space from the ground up and constructed a studio to allow for writing and recording under their own time constraints. The goal? To release a demo recorded under meticulous conditions, that would not be released until every measure was pushed to its fullest potential. Driven by their love of music and live performance, every step taken is a calculated one. The building of their fan-base began that following November with a debut show opening for Boston Hard-Core act DieCast (Now or Never Records). The band has since shared stages with The Used, The Roots, Andrew W. K. and Factory 81. The live shows have progressed and are moving outward from Buffalo to their tri-state area neighbors including dates in Niagara Falls NY, into Erie PA and soon heading towards Ohio. Their debut EP, entitled "Separation of Self", is receiving airplay through CMJ reporting stations and is currently distributed for retail in the Buffalo area. Each member brought with them a raw, relentless approach to life, which they intend to carry over into the project. They possess the blend of professionalism and perseverance necessary to compete with the rigorous demands they face in a harsh and highly competitive industry.
