About appreciating the simple things

Hip Hop General

DJ Tansey -- Rap Entrepreneur AIM: djtansey I have been interested in Hip-Hop since 1995. My first album was Tupac Shakur's Me Against The World. I was only 11, but his music still managed to reach me. I miss rap with a message. It seems everyone is a megalomaniac. So I'm doing my own thing. Hopefully people will give a sh*t.
Band/artist history
Here's the short version: For years I've been unimpressed by the main stream rap that has been produced. While I can appreciate why it is popular, I think it is a poor reflection on our society. In the summer of 2003 I was overseas and found that a lot of the youth liked American Hip-Hop. I was sad that they were seeing it as a representation of our country and of our people. I decided then that I was going to show just what freedom means, through my rhymes.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
I play live. Open mics, concerts, battles, wherever. My best performance was my first. When my track started to play and I knew that any second now I would be bringin' down the house -- nothing beats that! I will likely be touring this August (2004.) Looking forward to that.
Your musical influences
Number one, cliche as it is: Tupac Shakur. The rest, in no particular order: Common. Mos Def. Dead Prez. Biggie. Outkast. Outlawz. And a million others. If it can make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up, it influenced me.
Anything else?
I love feedback. Whether you like it or don't like it, drop me an email (listed under "contact") and tell me why you did or didn't. I want to make good music, and am humble enough to accept criticism.
