I am classically trained in percussion but I specialized in the drums and have been teaching drums for over 30 years. I started of playing rock when I was 15 and graduated to progressive rock and then to fusion. When I later went back to college, I really got into jazz and fusion jazz like Weather Report, Ian Garbarek, Trilok Gurtu etc. That opened up many doors as to my musical spheres. I then started playing lots of fusion jazz. I never really thought about writing music but when I purchased my home recording studio, it inspired me to start writing. At first I tried writing jazz oriented material but that is not what came out. It was a tad frustrating as that was what I wanted to write. After a while, I realized that I had to go with what I heard and the rest is history.
I don't really have a history with this "band". I have been writing for over a year now and apart from my family and friends, this is the first time anyone has heard this music.
I presently do not play live as this music is all written on a computer. I would love to one day have the opportunity of playing with musicians who are into this type of material.
Like I mentioned before, there was Weather Report, Al Demiola, Lee Ritenour, Peter Gabriel, Trilok Gurtu, Ian Garbarek, Nusrat Fatih Ali Khan, Chick Corea but I am also an avid fan of classical music especially Beethoven, Chopin, Shubert, Scriabin and Haydn
I have a MacG5 as my processor, M-Audio ProjectMix as my control surface and I work on Logic Pro 8 with additional software from East-West and Kontact3. I use a Yamaha Portable Grand as my midi controller and that is pretty much it.
