Wordsworth Inks Deal, releasing debut solo album June 2004.
New York, NY- Halftooth Records, L.L.C. was founded in 2001 by David Schrager and Zach Gordon. Halftooth Records is David and Zachs way of sharing their love of Hip-Hop with others. Through Halftooth Records, David and Zach will present listeners with quality Hip-Hop music made solely out of a love for the art, not motivated by the materialism and egotism that have driven popular Hip-Hop music for far too long. Halftooth Records takes pride in creating an artist-friendly community where artists, label executives and staff form a strong and supportive family. According to Halftooth artist Kenn Starr, At Halftooth, the music comes first, bottom line. It's not a lot of you need to have a song like this or you should go for this type of image. I'm fortunate enough to have creative control over my work, which is something I value highly. And not to mention the family vibe there. It's not just a business arrangement, but a group of individuals who share the same passion for Hip-Hop music and culture. Halftooth artist and producer Oddisee chose to sign with Halftooth Records because it's better to know the roots of your tree then to gaze at the top of it. I like the fact that Halftooth remains personal with their artists and never separates an artist from his music.
Halftooth Records is the home of Hip-Hop artist and producer Oddisee, who many of you know from his song Musik Lounge off of DJ Jazzy Jeffs Magnificent. Oddisee produced most of the songs on You Dont know the Half. Oddisee has produced songs for many of Hip-Hops finest, and he has also released several 12 inch singles, including Nitefall with Kev Brown and Cy-Young. Oddisee and Halftooth have big plans for 2004, as they will be releasing his debut solo album in the fall. Halftooth is also the home of emcee extraordinaire Kenn Starr, who shared the song This is Hip Hop with Oddisee on the recent release from Seven Heads Ent. No Edge Ups in South Africa. Kenn Starr has worked with the likes of Talib Kweli, J-Live, members of the Justice League, and Asheru of Unspoken Heard. Kenn Starrs solo debut on Halftooth Records will hit stores at the end of 2004. Oddisee and Kenn Starr are currently involved in a number of projects.

For all of you who are anxiously waiting for Wordsworth to drop his premier solo LP, Halftooth Records is proud to announce that they recently inked a deal with the masterful lyricist. According to co-President David Schrager, We are very excited to have Words as part of our family. Words is one of the most talented and most respected Hip-Hop artists to date, and his knowledge and experience will help us as a label, and Oddisee and Kenn as developing artists. Ive been a fan of Wordsworth since 97, and its an honor to be putting out his first solo endeavor. Halftooth will be releasing Wordsworths album, which has not yet been titled, in June of 2004. On Wordsworths decision to sign with Halftooth Records: I chose to go with Halftooth because they believe in me and my music. Its hard to find a label that believes in you. They understand what Im doing as an artist and that the music Im making will have an effect on the world so they support that.
Many of you know Wordsworth from his role in the Lyricist Lounge showcase in 1997, and his involvement with then-partner Punch. Wordsworth has worked with the likes of Q-tip, Black Star, Masta Ace, J-Live, and Slick Rick. Wordsworth also has several critically acclaimed 12 inch singles out, including the J-Zone produced Not Me and On Your Feet, produced by The Beatminerz. Halftooth Records will be releasing their highly anticipated premier album, Halftooth Records Presents You Dont Know the Half, on February 17th, 2004. You Dont Know the Half will feature all new music from Halftooth artists Oddisee, Kenn Starr, and Wordsworth, and new music from Talib Kweli, J-Live, Phonte and Big Pooh of Little Brother, Asheru of Unspoken Heard, Grap Luva, Cy-Young, Kev Brown and many more. According to co-President Zach Gordon, "You Don't Know the Half is our way of introducing the Halftooth family to the Hip-Hop community in a deeper than usual context. As opposed to showcasing individual artists, we believe it is more important to create a musically cohesive project that can capture the enormous collaborative potential of everyone involved. The result proves to be an album that stands as not only the expressive efforts of individuals, but as a single musical expression from like-minded individuals."

Also look out for the 12 inch EP, Halftooth Records Presents You Dont Know the Half, in February. Halftooth Records has signed a distribution deal with Fat Beats for vinyl distribution, and is currently finalizing distribution for their CD releases with a major independent distributor.
