Something Clever Something Clever

This is a track I did with my band, In Between Worlds. We disbanded shortly after but are now playing together again. Stacy Tucker on vocals. I recorded all other tracks. One of my best works as of yet.

Progressive Rock

Satchel is just a nickname. Really, I'm just Wes. I play guitar mostly, but I also play piano, bass, and program drums. I can sing - but I don't like to because usually there's no possible chance of being able to recreate it live, as no matter what - I'll always be more concerned with my guitar work. I love to record, play music, and write music. I've been a fan of heavy rock for years, but am just now opening my mind to progressive rock and even some metal. It's given me much more to chew on when concocting rhythms. Hopefully I'll have some quality stuff for you guys to listen to soon. The band I'm in was called "In Between Worlds". We're playing again now, but under a different name - of which we haven't come up with. That'll be soon though.
Band/artist history
I started out playing in a youth group band for a church with some of my friends. We played at other churches and talent competitions. That was my first taste of music within the spectrum of a band. I wanted to play more often, and more venues - so secular music was my next shift. I teamed up with some friends from high-school and helped start a band we called "self-titled". We played local birthday parties, community events, and even had our first bar/club show. But as all things to that band came to an end. Not more than a few months later the same core group of guys and myself got back together to try again. We called that group, "Not Again" - which also happened to be the first words out of the singers and my mouth when asked to start the band again. This band lasted approx. 7 years. I learned so much about people, music, and myself. At the end of NA I was looking for more creative control. I wanted to have more control of the writing process, and not just be the "riff jukebox". As I attempted to expand my creativity, "creative differences" began to form between myself and the other creative minds of the band. This led to my leaving the band I would refer to as "my first love" behind to start a new band called "Inbetween Worlds". IBW was originally a three piece band formed around my new ideas with me as the front and lead guitar. Before we were even a month into the project - the original idea for IBW was dropped - and the ideas of another guy (who will go unnamed, frankly because of my low opinion of him) who happened to be the brother of the drummer of IBW. We waited over a month with no progress for him to arrange moving to Birmingham from the northwest. He was to come in, be the new front for IBW - and we were to play his songs. Reason for all this was that he had been the front of a band back in the day that had been signed to a record label - and they had supposedly "almost made it" except for some unfortunate events that had been, from I can discern, mostly this guys fault - but none-the-less my band spoke highly of his recordings, and I have to say myself - they weren't bad at all. Actually his music was really good. It lacked a bit of "modern-ness" as was probably because of his love for music circa-80's - but it was very listenable, and very rock. We went into the practice studio playing 5 nights per week, a week or so before he showed up to learn his songs. When he got there - we continued for another two weeks - 5 nights per week, learning his songs. Then he left. We had wasted something like two and a half months working hard on not only learning the songs, but marketing them as well. We had producers interested and responding to the demos, and offers for big shows. We turned down an offer to open up for "Dark New Day" the week that he left. That could have been a defining moment. Also - it broke the morality of the band to pieces. My position was - okay, lets do what we were gonna do originally. My ideas. But it wasn't just that with the other guys. This wasn't the first time they had been burned by the same guy. Finally - we reformed - and began to write songs again. We also added a female vocalist to the equation, Stacy Tucker. She was our ace in the hole so-to-speak. No one expected a female vocalist with my brand of writing and no one expected her charisma to be so entertaining. We lost the original drummer - due to "creative differences" (amazing how that term just works, eh?) and Brandon Tucker joined the crew. This line-up lasted a couple of years. Those couple of years were the best, and most fun years of all the years of music I've ever played. We played City Stages, were on Good Day AL, and played all over the Southeast. Like all good things, IBW came to an end again. There were a couple of other projects after that, "eightysix" and "3Left" - some involved different members of the past mentioned projects. Then nothing. I came to a place where I was tired of trying. It had been a year of practice, and no playing, and no writing. I had become completely un-inspired.... ....until now. I got a call from Brandon, my best friend and long time drummer - and he said - "Wes, we should play music. Now." And it was like a light switch flipped in my head and the music started playing again. And here I am. I'm writing music for myself, for my band, and I'm even looking at side projects just for fun and extra cheese. I'm inspired again. Nothing's the same - and I don't think it ever will be again.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
Currently no. But I have many many times, and I love it. Most special moment was City Stages 2007. We played to well over a thousand people, and from where I was standing they all received us quite well. It was my greatest musical achievement. Hometown favorite places to play would be The Nick, and The Highnote in Birmingham, AL.
Your musical influences
I love a LOT of different types of music. Some of my favorites that I'm most inspired by are Deftones, Chevelle, Silverchair, Sky Eats Airplane, Periphery, and Animals as Leaders.
What equipment do you use?
Andreas Sharktooth guitar, Mushok Baritone Ibanez, Mesa Boogie Triple rectifier, mesa cabs, lots of effects, Pro Tools LE, etc. etc. etc.
Anything else?
The angle of the dangle decreased the sag of the bag.
