Nic Kelly (born in Baltimore, Maryland), better known as Nic Diamonds, is an American hip hop music producer. Nic Diamonds has produced tracks for local and underground artists. A large part of Nic Diamonds technique consists of altering samples, as well as adding in his own drums and keyboard melodies. In this way, he draws some of his influence from various super producers, who have utilized soul samples. Nic Diamonds has used this technique on songs produced on the Jay-Z remix project Big Time Gangsters. Nic Diamonds has recently started a production company, Diamond Mind Productions, which is looking for indie distribution. Along with producing, Nic has also taken to rapping...Check out his first mixtape Follow the Future. Discography: Production: H.A.P.H(of the Ranjahz)- Let's Get It(Get Wit It) Javelot Music . Band/artist history
Man I started along time ago I wrote my first wack little rap at 10 about going some where and I took my little yamaha keyboard, slowed down a beat and practiced all day thinkin how cool it was that I made a song by myself lol(at least I thought so). I have a lot of producer influence Puff, Swizz, Pete Rock, Just Blaze Dilla and Kanye would be major ones. Kanye I would say made me believe I could rap, when I first heard him I had some doubts. He grew into an incredible artist and I watched like from him being a nobody as a rapper to like the biggest star in the world. After the College drop out and Get Rich or Die Trying I wrote my first good rhymes. I had to find a voice though I spit a lot and One day I was invited to a studio at Towson University I killed the it's me bitches beat. That was like my first real recording. That changed my out look on rapping.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
I have been invited to do shows to my surprise after releasing my first mixtape "Follow the Future" but I mostly turned them down. I felt like a lot of the material on FTF was other peoples songs and my freestyles so when I do start to perform, I want to do my own songs.
Your musical influences
I love like every producer out there I learn alot just by seeing what they do. As far as rapping kanye really made me feel like I could do it. I am a fan of Biggie's, Pac's, Nas' And Jay-Z. Diddy is probably who I modeled my business plan after he is the reason I started producing.
What equipment do you use?
I use the MPC 2000xl and a ton of records I'm also on the Roland boards, than I have the Motif 6. I sample shit or just play it out on the keyboard depending on the mood im going for.
