Voyager - Hole (2011)
Hollow Studios had its origins in 1997 when I started experimenting with electronic music. I soon realized that it was quite a relaxing pastime and soon I had enough songs for an album. At that stage mp3.com was just starting to make waves so I decided to put my works there under the name Triangular Regression. As everyone knows, mp3.com is now defunct but I haven't stopped making music. Listening through the 10 albums I have produced since that time it's easy to find a common thread, but also a definite evolutionary progression. I recently revamped the studio and thought that a change of band name would be in order. I chose Voyager (initially Vger but that sounded too mechanical). I now own this band name on TheBandRegistry, if anybody asks :) Voyager's sound is complicatedly textured synthetic with processed vocals. Still, it's easy to listen to even in the car.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
I have played live twice before, but I prefer not to do it. My music is to be appreciated at a distance, as I am. It's also way too much work to haul a studio around just for a few hours - but I'll consider it if the pay is good.
Your musical influences
Michael Cretu and Jens Gad are definitely at the top of my list of influences. Then there are 80's/90's bands like Modern Talking and Blue System (both managed by Dieter Bohlen) that I still love and listen to regularly. But in terms of concept I think Leftfield has made the biggest mark.
What equipment do you use?
Several computers, several synthesizers, a guitar and too many mic's to count.
Anything else?
Yes thanks very much for asking. I'd like to say that my music is for consumption, but not to make a profit. If anyone feels they would really like a copy I can help them out. I run the studio as a charity project and donate proceeds to several charities in South Africa.
