Apnea crushing metal from Springfield, MO
Band/artist history
APNEA hails from Springfield, MO in the heart of the Ozark Mountains.
The roots of APNEA began in the summer of 1999 when Steve Allington recruited members of a Lebanon, MO death metal band SICKENED. The name was changed to APNEA, a sleeping disorder in which a person suffocates and barely breathes in their sleep. Steve got this name due to the fact that he had it at this time. The name change signified the band's newer direction. A direction of being able to use the elements of different genres within the metal scene. APNEA mix elements of death, thrash, speed, and doom without sounding trendy or monotonous, two things too prominent in the metal scene today. In 2000 APNEA released their first cd "Dwelling"and recieved positive reviews from Metal Maniacs and Last Judgement 'Zine among others. Due to Steve's advertising on Napster, cds were sold worldwide. People bought cds from Portugal, Spain, England, Japan, France, Canada, Greece, and Russia.
In 2001 APNEA released their second cd "Off The Beaten Path". This release got positive reviews from Metal Maniacs, Throat Culture Mag, and countless web 'zines. The band still gets orders for this cd to this day. Then the following year APNEA recorded "Infinite Decay". This was a signal for a transitional period for the band. Drummer Remy Cameron left to join VORE and the band needed a drummer to fill his shoes. Jake Norman joined the band in January of 2003 more than filling Remy's shoes and brought new life into APNEA's music. In 2004 APNEA released "In The Darkness" their best cd to date. It has all the elements of the previous cds but with more brutality. Soon the band would start to recieve positive reactions by both fans and musicians and more gigs were floating their way.
APNEA continues to work hard playing shows and writing killer matierial. They have opened for national acts including SIX FEET UNDER, SOULFLY, CRISIS, IMMOLATION, ORIGIN, PISSING RAZORS, THE RED CHORD, VAMPIRE MOOSE, VOMIT REMNANTS, BRODEQUIN, MORGUE and more are scheduled with METAL CHURCH, CATTLE DECAPITATION and GOATWHORE.
After a couple of lineup changes APNEA is solidified by the current members:
Steve Allington - guitar/vocals
Jake Norman - drums
Robbie Valentine - bass
Matt Glaser - guitar
Apnea's sound is hard to classify. It's mixture of old school sounds mixed with a modern edge. Riffs go from doom and plodding to hyper-speed. The vocals compliment the different moods by switching from brutal gutteral screams to melodic clean vocals. In the end APNEA's songs are memorable after the cd is turned off, something very few bands accomplish these days.

I'm gonna break the cob webs off this message board.Somehow stumbled across your tunes and I gotta say after listening to "Discontentment's return"..I was surprised I never ran across your band before but never the less..This song is f***ing awesome man, preferred the deep brutal vocals as opposed to the cleaner ones, the brutal sound in those vocals gives this music a truley heavy but like a soothing depressive state, very trancey!Like that drum thingy you did as well, pretty original.I'll have to come back and listen to the other songs later.Good work mate!
