Band/artist history
Started writing melodies and lyrics and percussion sets in Kindergarten. Often inspired by droning sounds like car transmissions heard through the floorboard of parents cars. Distinct memory of first song: "...let us both be fools, we'll use our dreams as tools, to see the light reflected in the pools, of rain that has gone by, but we'll not sigh nor cry, because we know our love will never die. ..." Got first guitar, a Stella 3/4 size, in second grade. Was asked by high school age musician to join his band. Right after my very first official guitar lesson. Never did figure out if he was serious. It has all been up from there.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
Yes.
Your musical influences
King Crimson, Kaki King, Keith Jarrett, Fiona Apple, Shakti, Stevie Wonder, Philip Glass, Beatles, Adrian Belew, John Coltrane, Arnett Cobb, Pharoah Sanders, John McLaughlin, anything I hear, anything I think, anything I feel.
What equipment do you use?
All. Seriously. All, and I make equipment. In the end, you are the equipment. If you prefer, I use my body and mind equipment to get and use any equipment appropriate to the task. The more standard answer is piano, guitar, bass, strings, percussion, voice, electronics, computers, and the internet. In some sense the equipment uses me. Whatever it takes, I channel it.
Anything else?
Everything is as it should be. Challenges are opportunities that I savor. In the end, and before, we are all on the same team.
