Alex Blood hails from the UK, Midland, East-Mids to be exact. Growing up in the average, white neighbourhood of Spondon, in the city of Derby, Alexs childhood had little in common with the rap icons of today. If his mother and father had not exposed him to such a varied music collection, then his future would almost certainly not of been a creative one. From rock to reggae, from 80s electro pop to soul music, Alex grew up to the sounds of Michael Jackson, UB40, T-Rex, Queen and Motown, to name a few.
At the age of eleven he moved schools and began attending a city centre college, where he remained till the age of 18. Being located in the city centre for the best part of his younger years helped Alex to develop a strong understanding of different people and different cultures, one these cultures being Hip Hop.
After first listening to Cypress Hills Black Sunday album, Alex became immersed into the more dark and moody side of hip hop music, spending his time listening to classics such as NWAs Efil4Zaggin, Snoop Doggy Doggs Doggystyle, Onyxs All We Got is us, and eventually discovering the legendary Tupac Shakur.
Shakurs music showed a young Alex a very different side to hip hop music, a more soulful side, a side that demonstrated energy, passion, and raw self expression. Its was around this time that Alex began putting his own feelings and thoughts down on paper, combating the emotional roller coaster of adolescence with his ability to vocalise himself over hip hop instrumentals.
At the age of 17 Alex joined forces with fellow local MC Simon Jonez, forming the duo Blood & Jonez. In 2003 the duos debut release entitled The Spare A Little Change EP hit the underground, on which Alex handled production duties as well as lyrical input. The EP gained some national press and airplay, stamping the sound and name of Alex Blood on the underground UK Hip Hop scene.
During the promotion of this EP, Blood & Jonez formed the Deprogrammed Crew and toured nationally promoting the camps material. Between 2003-2004 the group supported legendary undergound UK acts such as Skinnyman, Klashnekoff, TerraFirma, Phi Life Cypher, Jehst, Rodney P, as well as travelling to Germany to collaborate with English speaking German MC Egocentrik, and one of Germanys most respected hip hop acts MB1000. .
Having professionally produced for over 3 independent releases, Alex decided it was time to move forward on his own, and embarked upon his solo career. After winning BBC 1Xtras HomeGrown Cuts competition in 2004, Alex released his first solo effort The Alex Blood EP. Well received by national Magazines such as Undercover and Blues & Soul, the EP introduced the magnified sound of Alex as a solo artist.
In 2005 Alex became involved with the creation of On The One Records. His first release through this label is the BLOOD MAKES NOISE mixtape, compiled and mixed by mix tape veteran and all round music guru DJ Hudson, one of the founders of the east midlands longest serving hip hop night Off The Hook. Currently being promoted through a string of live performances, the mixtape sees Alex handing the production reins over to the mysterious and bass heavy greek connection, Diveno, forging a partnership set to take the UK Hip Hop scence by storm. BLOOD MAKES NOISE is a freshly put together mix of old, new, UK and US hip hop classics intertwined with exlcusive new material from Alex, including some sneak previews of the forthcoming album produced by Diveno.
