Carters Shining Deed.mp3 Carters Shining Deed.mp3

The album opens with a jaunty reggae number Carters Shining Deed, featuring African percussion and rock-a-billy guitar. It tells the story of Robert Carter, a land owner who, after an attack of conscience, set his slaves free and was punished with so

I A Rebel Soul.mp3 I A Rebel Soul.mp3

I a Rebel Soul drives along furiously over thumb piano and hard tribal percussion. Peter Cs soulful guitar work and some subtle dub add a more laid back element to the mix.

They Call Them Animals.mp3 They Call Them Animals.mp3

A jazz bass and dark chiming guitar lead into They Call Them Animals, an impassioned plea for more awareness around animal issues and attitudes. Latin percussion and sax add to the swirling, jazzy feel of this track.

If I Cannot Dance.mp3 If I Cannot Dance.mp3

A gorgeous mix of acoustic guitars, African xylophone and clay pot percussion help make If I Cannot Dance, an intensely personal song about the need for warmth and shared humanity an emotional, appealing and uplifting track.

The Fall.mp3 The Fall.mp3

The Fall is a sombre reflection upon our loss of connection with nature. It glides along with sparse guitar, a mixed choir and musical bells played like a glockenspiel. The long instrumental fade is quite mesmerising.

Alchemy in Roots is a dazzling new project from two veteran British musicians. Peter C is the alchemist producer, guitarist and keyboard player behind Global Trancemission and Darkstarcruiser and Rankin’ Jules is a guitarist, percussionist and singer/songwriter who was the founder and guiding force of ferocious new wave band Running Dogs. When the two streams of talent of these lifelong friends converge the results are astonishing. Jules’ protest songs crackle over a shimmering array of world instruments and tribal drums. Their debut album “Shine Beneath the Skin” contains almost 75 minutes of first class world fusion music with a reggae sensibility.
Band/artist history
A love of music throughout the ages and from all over the world has been the shared passion of the members of Alchemy in Roots for half a century! Even from their schooldays,Peter C and Rankin’ Jules played truant for months on end in order to listen to pirate radio and hard-to-obtain vinyl singles. Come the ‘70’s both were involved in local punk/new wave bands. Rankin’ Jules honed his writing and performance skills into the ‘80’s with various bands while Peter C began a long apprenticeship in production skills, later forming the Global Trancemission record label and releasing many successful trance and ambient CD’s. He also formed Darkstarcruiser, a homage to UK space rock. A chance reunion in the street brought these two diverse talents back together and the result is the astonishing mixture of reggae, world fusion and protest songs emergent on “Shine Beneath the Skin”, their debut album. Alchemy in Roots are already back in the studio preparing to embark on their second project.
