In a performance context, Mob of One offers a distinct musical experience by providing a range of instrumentation and arrangements via the MalletStation created by Pearl and Keith McMillen Instruments.
I've been playing drums and percussion for decades, but the entire Mob of One experience has been brand new and is only about 18 months old. Initially, I began creating beats and beats with hooks in order to give myself content. As these slowly developed into larger pieces I began performing publicly in very modest settings in the summer of 2023 and haven't looked back...
I love to play in front of an audience, and Mob of One has given me a platform to step out from behind the drum kit and perform my own music. I have many memories playing live over the years, but in the context of Mob of One, one of my most special is the reception my music got from the DC rap community the first time I performed at The Pocket on North Capitol Street in DC - that was unexpected and fantastic.
My tastes in music are varied but trend toward pop/rock and jazz. I have many influences, ranging from classic rock stalwarts like The Beatles to prog-rockers like Jethro Tull and Rush. I love to read a magazine called "The Big Takeover" where I learn about a LOT of new music - shoutout to them. But all that being said, for my money, I'm not really sure I can think of a more complete musician than the late jazz pianist Bill Evans.
